Zack Snyder Praises James Gunn’s DCU Reboot for Upcoming Flick ‘Man of Tomorrow’

DC fans today feel more divided than ever. On one side stand the staunch Snyderverse loyalists, still mourning the premature end of a darker, operatic vision that treated the DC mythos with its gravity grounded in realism. On the other hand are the revisionists, fully embracing the colorful, offbeat, and unapologetically comic-book energy that James Gunn is injecting into the rebooted DCU.
Yet, while these two camps remain locked in constant crossfire, Snyder and Gunn themselves have kept things surprisingly warm ahead of Man of Tomorrow.

Zack Snyder shared some kind words for the fresh DC path during a chat with Josh Horowitz on Happy Sad Confused, coming across as nothing but positive about the franchise's new direction. Looking back on the shift, Snyder noted admiration rather than contempt for Gunn.
"James is singular in his storytelling, in his ability to kind of channel mythological pop culture that's both poignant and funny," Snyder stated on the podcast. He went on to bless the upcoming flick with his best wishes.

This nod stands out, especially since Snyder kicked off the prior DC Extended Universe with Man of Steel in 2013 and Batman v Superman in 2016, setting a moodier tone for the series. Now with DC Studios guided by James Gunn and Peter Safran, the forthcoming Man of Tomorrow stands as a key piece in the revamped lineup, ready to bring the vibrant Superman to his ever-expanding spotlight.
In contrast to Snyder, Gunn's knack for mixing emotion with comic value, as seen in his previous Guardians of the Galaxy, is now core to DC's unfolding movie game plan.
While Snyder cheers on Man of Tomorrow, another DC gem lights up the screens with Lanterns.
Lanterns TV show lights up the DCU slate
The Lanterns show tracks of two Green Lantern Corps folks, the space-faring guardians who are not always from Earth. Hal Jordan, played by Kyle Chandler, starts as an Earth test pilot who joins the team, rocks a storied run, but nears hanging up his ring. He mentors newbie and ex-Marine John Stewart, brought to life by Aaron Pierre.

The pair digs into a Nebraska incident that uncovers a dark puzzle. While there is no confirmation of a release date, the early buzz has signalled it for HBO Max in early 2026, with the latest talks from officials pushing it past Supergirl's June theater bow. Late summer 2026 or beyond is likely a safe guess.
Zack Snyder's gracious praise for James Gunn's DCU reboot, spotlighting Man of Tomorrow, bridges old and new eras with class, much like a creator humbly acknowledging fan divides while championing fresh takes that keep the universe thriving and inclusive.
