The sweet vacation time is over for Alex and Ruari in the HBO series Youth. Episode 5 of the show took the characters on a vacation in Ibiza to celebrate Sam and Frank's anniversary. However, the trip did not turn out to be as relaxing as they had hoped.

It began with Alex struggling to adjust to what appeared to be a couple’s trip. But just as the fun had begun for Alex, Frank’s unexpected heart attack during a boat rave scared off the entire group, dampening spirits. But if anything went well, Frank survived the danger, and the fear of death reignited love between Alex and Patrick as the two reconsidered their relationship.

But soon, Alex realizes that a relationship is not easy, as a new date throws their romance in danger.

‘Youth’ Episode 4 Recap: Alex is confused about her relationship with Patrick

Episode 6 begins with Alex and Patrick rekindling their romance. They walk hand in hand while sharing a kiss as they reach Sam’s house to visit Frank after his health scare. Patrick’s emotional speech at the hospital after Frank's heart attack had seemingly convinced Alex, who began hoping for a strong relationship. After greeting an enthusiastic Frank, who is more energized and positive after his heart attack, Alex tells Sam about her relationship with Patrick.

She even jokes about wanting to grow old and die together with Patrick, hinting at her interest in a more serious relationship with him. However, her hope quickly crumbles after a message and a shocking comment from Patrick. During her conversation with Sam, Alex gets a text from Lars, who asks her out for a date.

Sam, who also reads the text, goes on to jokingly ask Patrick about his thoughts on Alex going on a date. In response, he nonchalantly replies that she should make the most of her life. This comment upsets Alex and makes her reconsider their relationship.

Later, she tries to confront Patrick about his comment, but that goes in vain. And when Patrick asks if she would be interested in joining him to meet his friends to talk about Syria the next day, she does not give a proper response. But Alex does not have much time to sit and think about it, as the next day, she hops out to join Sam for lunch with Malcolm.

Alex had previously informed Sam that she had managed to get a lunch appointment with Malcolm, which got her friend's approval. Much to her delight, Sam agreed to consider making Alex her junior partner in her business. As for Ruari, who previously worked for Frank in his bar, he went on to work at Sam's agency and in the same office where his mother works.

In the office, Ruari finds a rare bond with another employee, Plum. Later, during Alex and Sam's planned lunch, the latter continued to talk about troubles in her relationship with Frank. Meanwhile, Alex secretly continues to reach out to writer Yafa Barghouti and fixes a date to meet with publisher Camille, lying that their agency was representing the writer.

While her secret assignment with Yafa Barghouti would later come back to haunt her, Alex was about to face another huge problem with Malcolm. The lunch appointment goes horribly wrong as they find their mutually disliked agent, Grayson, who tries to steal Malcolm from them. The two quickly understand Grayson’s plan to land Malcolm with their agency.

Although Sam and Alex try to get to talk to Malcolm, warn him about Grayson, and try to tell him the benefits of joining their agency, he ditches them and leaves. Disappointed by the failed attempt, Alex and Sam decide to return home, but the latter suggests that the other go meet Lars, and she agrees. But when she suggests that she is anxious, Sam gives her an Xanax.

Alex's chaotic date

While Alex takes the Xanax and hops in a taxi, she falls asleep. And her taxi driver, who was supposed to take her out to the location of her date with Lars, drops her at home. Confused because of the Xanax and stress, she goes to meet Patrick and his friends, whom she had earlier refused.

While they had just begun to get comfortable and enjoy a conversation, they were interrupted by Lars, who arrived at the same location. In a rush, she forgot that she had texted her live location to Lars earlier. And the man followed his date to the new location after she stood him up.

As Alex struggles to introduce Lars to Patrick’s friends, the tension quickly escalates, and the situation gets awkward. Patrick gets annoyed and embarrassed, and this leads to a major fight between Alex and Patrick. While Patrick accuses Alex of embarrassing him in front of his friends, she accuses him of being a man-child.

While things appeared bleak in her relationship with Patrick, Alex is happy to land a meeting with Camille, who offers a deal to get Yafa Barghouti. But she gets interrupted during her meeting by her father’s call, who appears to be struggling to turn off his podcast. As she could not get Ruari on a call, she asks Patrick to help.

Later, Alex heads off to the office to finally reveal the truth to Sam about Yafa Barghouti. Her friend and boss quickly points out her mistake of lying to a publisher and asks her to leave. Alex disappointingly arrives home only to find Patrick has visited her father and is spending time with him, which melts her heart.

The two lovebirds finally confront each other, while Alex confesses that she does not wish to see any guy while dating Patrick. The two make amends, and the episode ends with Alex and Patrick sharing a kiss. However, Alex’s work with Yafa Barghouti has clearly landed her dreams of becoming a business partner in trouble.
