Sharon Horgan’s HBO show Youth has returned with bigger and more complicated chaos. A 50-year-old literary agent, Alex, imagines a perfect time to kick-start her life by finding a partner and getting more fit after her son Ruari sets off for Kent University. However, things quickly take a different turn when Ruari returns home, and Alex finds a problematic rumor about her son.

Meanwhile, there is plenty of chaos in her career and love life. While she struggles to adjust to her clients, Alex gets into an argument with her ex, Patrick in the second episode of the show. Now, episode 3 of the show brings Alex and her son into a new city amid both familiar and new faces. 

Episode 3 of the show begins with Alex, joining Sam for the book fair in Frankfurt, Germany. However, Alex brought her son Ruari along with her for the work trip. Throughout the episode, the main protagonist tries to bring Ruari along with her for everything to ensure that he does not feel lonely. This was after Alex found out Ruari’s classmate calling him a pervert when the two visited his university in episode 2. 

While she has figured out that something happened to her son, Alex has yet to figure out the real incident. Now, back in episode 3, Alex and Sam meet an old friend, Lars, on their way to check in to their hotel. While Lars shows an interest in Alex, he seemingly backs off after finding out that she has a teen son.

The two also met Karen, who publishes Alex’s clients but refused to recognize her. Later, at the hotel, a concerned Alex is seen texting Ruari’s friend Mia, asking her to call her to talk about her son. However, she does not get any response.

Alex initially suggests that Ruari watch a movie and try different activities at the hotel while she is away for the book fair. However, after some thought, she decided to bring her son along for the event despite her friend Sam’s mild protests. During the event, she also finds that Malcolm, whose book Goblin’s Seeds she has previously rejected, has garnered immense fame, and it would soon be turning into a series.

As more people come up to inform them that the book is doing well, Sam begins to question Alex’s decision to fire Malcolm. Later at the event, Alex saw Malcom for an author talk, where he identified her among the crowd and called out by saying that she inspired him to self-publish his book by firing her. Alex’s lengthy day gets only worse at the end when she realizes that she got her period after more than a year of menopause.

Meanwhile, she texts Patrick to check up on him after their argument, asking if they are still talking, to which he agrees. Meanwhile, new issues begin for Alex at her work. After Alex and Sam catch Charlotte and Liv talking to literary agent Grayson, they confront her. However, Liv threatens them that if they cannot publish Wagon Burner, they will get a new publisher. 

However, Sam and Alex stand their ground about Charlotte’s draft of Wagon Burner needing changes and they decide to talk it over in a conversation. While Alex continues to pitch Wagon Burner to publishers, she also sneakily tries to publish a new writer, Yafa Barghouti, draft without Sam's knowledge. Later, Alex gets invited by Lars to join him for a party and he suggests that a lot of publishers will be present at the party. 

Since Alex could not bring Ruari along to the party, she pleads with him to join a networking event at the Frankfurt Uni Campus, which he agrees to. Later at the party, she gets a text from Patrick about her flat number, which he quickly deletes before Alex could reply. However, Alex, who saw the message, got annoyed by the gesture and went on to kiss Lars.

Later, when Alex tries to leave the party, she meets Karen, who not only recognizes her this time but also expresses her frustration over having published Charlotte's previous three books, which were not good enough, and even punches Alex in the face. Somehow, Alex carries all the dignity she can and returns to her room. In the midst of the drama, she gets a message from Ruari, who says that he is having fun.

While Alex had doubts about the text, she is happy about Ruari getting along with new people. However, her mood quickly changes when she gets a call from Sam saying that they are planning to get Malcolm back in the company, which further frustrates her. After the call, Lars arrives at Alex’s room in hopes of getting intimate with her, which impresses her. But their sweet moment gets cut short when Alex receives a text from Ruari saying that he is surrounded by death.

She rushes to reach Ruari, tracking his location only to find that he did not go to the meeting but instead was hanging around with a man in his 40s in a cemetery. While Alex asks the man to leave, she finally confronts Ruari to tell her the truth about what happened. That is when a slightly drunk Ruari reveals that he likes his friend Bridget. However, he reveals that an intimate moment between the two when they were drunk was later mistaken by his friends, and the gossip spread that he is a pervert, and he confessed to having a hard time because of the rumors.

After finding out the truth, Alex consoles Ruari and suggests that he should take a break. The two shared a warm hug, putting all the frustration and anger between them to rest. Later, Alex meets Malcom at the sauna, who suggests that he will be interested in getting back with their company. However, at the same time, he teased her for juggling her career and family as well as love, and even her getting her period at the age of 50 after pointing out blood on her towel. The episode ends with a shocked Alex walking out of the sauna, leaving a complicated question for the audience of what chaos is next for her.
