Just as things seem to be going well for Alex, fate throws a curveball at her, disrupting her peace in life. And that has been a constant in the last 6 episodes of the HBO series Youth, starring Sharon Horgan as a 50-year-old literary agent, Alex. The story follows the 50-year-old trying to balance life and career and make new life-changing decisions before she turns 60.
And episode 7 of the show is not much different. Alex finally finds some peace and happiness with new achievements in her career and romance. However, it soon gets shattered when she stumbles upon a disappointing piece of note.
Here is what went down in the latest epsiode of the show.
‘Youth’ Episode 6 Recap: Alex celebrates her achievements
Episode 7 begins with Alex ignoring all of her important work emails and calls, as well as avoiding her friend Sam. However, after she ends up browsing through all the stressful messages, the camera pans towards Patrick, who has been staying over at her place. The two have been spending enough time together after their last fight.
During their conversation, Patrick asks Alex about her ignoring work calls, which ultimately convinces her to open Sam's message. She had ignored messages about Charlotte's podcast interview as well as Jessie's (a writer represented by their agency) calls. But much to her relief, Sam had messaged her to inform her that their writer, Jessie, was nominated for Women's Lit awards, while Charlotte was getting the Lifetime Achievement Award. This was a huge win for the agency.

Alex was previously worried that Sam might have been upset over her lies about Yafa Barghouti, but that did not seem to be the case. In episode 6, Alex had finally come clean about lying to Sam about Yafa Barghouti. But with all the concerns behind her, Alex finally seems happy about her life and career.
Even after missing a bus, she appears positive about it, expecting to walk to her office. Later, she brilliantly handles a complicated situation with Charlotte's daughter. When Livid argues and complains that her mother, Charlotte, did not mention her during her interview on a podcast, Alex suggests she let go of expectations and instead focus on her life, which seems to work out well.

Alex also managed to handle Jessie, who had been concerned about a stalker. While her life and career finally seem to blossom, the camera pans to Ruari and Sam’s lives. Ruari and Plum decided to hang out at a bar with a former employee. During their conversation, when Plum tells an incident of Malcolm’s inappropriate behaviour with her, Ruari consoles her.
And the heartfelt conversation brings them closer. However, as the two get close, Ruari begins to get tense over his s***** performance. Ruari appears confused like any other teenager and listens to videos online to educate himself. On the other hand, Sam is concerned about her husband’s therapy sessions and worried that their relationship could get targeted soon.
And the tension escalates quickly when they all get together at Lorcan’s party before he leaves for Toronto.
‘Youth’ Episode 6 Recap: Lorcan's dinner party
During a break for the loo, Alex and Sam criticised Lorcan and Theresa’s relationship, which was overheard by Theresa. And as they got back together for dinner, Theresa announced unexpected news to annoy Alex. She announced that Lorcan had reversed his vasectomy and they were planning to have a child.
This upsets Alex, as she argues that Lorcan has not been a good father to Ruari, leading to a brief verbal altercation. But as Lorcan tries to blame Alex and argues that she has embarrassed Ruari, the teen pushes back, arguing that she has never embarrassed her. Later, Ruari meets Plum.

While they had planned for a cozy date, their plans fell apart when Ruari’s double Viagra pill intake delayed their date, and Plum fell asleep. Meanwhile, things took a sour turn for Alex and Patrick. The two had seemed to get along quite well throughout the episode.
She appears impressed with Patrick's relationship with her parents, and they even plan to go for a trip to Paris. However, the trouble began when Alex and Patrick returned to his apartment after Lorcan’s party. Alex mistakenly stumbles upon a note that reads "pros and cons" of Patrick dating her. While the pros had a long list that impressed her, she found out the list of cons had just one reason.
The note read that she cannot give him a family of his own. This upsets Alex, who previously believed that Patrick did not want kids. So while things appeared to look better for Alex in the next phase, it ends with a twist about how Alex will react to the situation.
