A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 1 left Dunk and Egg on the road, their bond deepening as the young, secret Targaryen prince began to grasp the weight of his hidden destiny. Egg’s journey from wide-eyed squire to future king is just beginning, and fans have been eager to see where the story goes next.

Now, the actor behind Egg has given a major update that brings season 2 one step closer.

On August 3, Dexter Sol Ansell, who plays Aegon “Egg” Targaryen, shared on Instagram that he has officially wrapped filming for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms season 2. In the clip, viewers could hear the crew announcing his season wrap, though the video itself was blacked out, likely to avoid revealing any spoilers from the set.

His announcement confirms that production is in its final stretch, with co-lead Peter Claffey, who plays Ser Duncan the Tall, expected to finish his scenes shortly as well. Season 2’s shoot has not been without challenges. Earlier this year, historic rainfall and flooding in Gran Canaria forced the production to halt filming at the Las Niñas Dam and relocate certain outdoor sequences.

Despite this setback, HBO CEO Casey Bloys and showrunner Ira Parker both confirmed that the series pushed through and remained on schedule, finishing the bulk of its location work in Spain and continuing principal photography in Belfast. Parker has reiterated that the plan is still to release season 2 in the first half of 2027, with six new episodes once again focusing on Dunk and Egg’s travels through a politically fragile Westeros.

After more than six months of quiet on his “Not a Blog,” George R.R. Martin has resurfaced with a deeply personal update that doubles as a heartfelt endorsement of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. In a new post titled “Better Late Than Never,” the 77-year-old author explains his absence, describing 2026 as a stressful year marked by both dream-come-true moments and painful losses. 

Martin’s blog entry is notably light on publishing news, with no fresh update on The Winds of Winter, but he takes time to celebrate the success of HBO’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, which adapts his Dunk and Egg novellas. The series has earned nine Emmy nominations, including Best Drama, a milestone Martin calls a highlight of his year. He praises the show’s creative team and reiterates how proud he is of the adaptation, which he has previously described as a faithful, character-driven take on his work.

Martin says he hopes to attend the Emmys at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles on September 14, though he notes that his presence will depend on a lot of things, likely including health and writing commitments. He also admits to being disappointed that the cast, including Peter Claffey and Dexter Sol Ansell, did not receive acting nominations, but adds that there is always next year, a nod to the show’s rare annual release schedule.
