With two Academy Awards, one Golden Globe, and several Emmy and BAFTA nominations, it does not take a scientist to figure out that Robert De Niro is on another level when it comes to having an influence. But how that influence may actually be misleading was recently brought to light by Seth Meyers.
The charge, per Meyers, is De Niro's incredibly generous laugh.
How Robert De Niro's laughter led to an almost bad SNL script
Laughter may be the best medicine, but according to Seth Meyers, too much of it can also be the recipe for an unfinished script making it to air. The Late Night host, appearing on Good Hang with Amy Poehler, recalled that when Robert De Niro first hosted SNL, he had a habit of laughing at nearly everything, a generosity that, according to Meyers, could mislead any writer.
"You might think you'd have written a perfect script," Meyers said, describing just how generously Robert De Niro would laugh during table reads.

Meyers' revelation during Good Hang with Amy Poehler does not come as a surprise, given the various stories of De Niro's good nature floating around. However, how this heartfelt act misled the writers at SNL during its initial days came as news.
Despite the legend handing out a hearty laugh almost all the time, Seth Meyers could not actually cross the bridge to go from a fan to a friend when it came to Robert De Niro.
Seth Meyers could never call Robert De Niro by his nickname
Given his line of work, meeting Robert De Niro is not a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Seth Meyers. The two have worked on SNL together, played host and guest on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and even appeared on New Year's Eve together.
However, for all the time Seth Meyers has spent in Robert De Niro's orbit, there is one line he has never quite worked up the nerve to cross: calling him "Bob." Meyers revealed on Good Hang with Amy Poehler that he simply could not get over the fact that he was in the presence of a legend.
"I've never been able to pull the trigger and call him Bob," Meyers said.

That is not for lack of time together. Between SNL sketches, a Late Night sit-down, an awkward elevator encounter, and a shared credit on New Year's Eve, Meyers and De Niro's history is a long one, Bob is just the one word that never made it in.
