After years of becoming one of Saturday Night Live‘s brightest stars, Chloe Fineman has finally revealed why she believed it was the right time to walk away. The comedian, who has since stepped into a packed 2026 slate filled with Hollywood films and a major Netflix series, recently reflected on the emotional decision behind ending her seven-season run. For Fineman, leaving was not about saying goodbye to SNL, but knowing exactly when the moment felt right.

Looking back on the emotional farewell, Fineman explained that one heartfelt realization ultimately made the difficult decision much easier.

̧Although announcing her departure from Saturday Night Live recently to Variety left Chloe Fineman in tears, the comedian said she never doubted the decision. Reflecting on her exit, she explained that the cast had become her “best friends,” making the goodbye incredibly emotional. Even so, Fineman believed it was important to leave on a high note, saying she didn’t want to stay “past” her expiration date, a mindset that ultimately convinced her it was the right time to close her seven-season chapter.

“They really are like my best friends. So many people there. But it’s good to leave on a positive. You don’t want to stay past your expiration date.” Fineman told Variety.

 Fineman’s emotional confession to Variety was only one part of a remarkable Saturday Night Live legacy where she first stepped in September 2019, quickly earning a reputation as one of the show’s standout impressionists. Her spot-on portrayals of Britney Spears, Jennifer Coolidge, Drew Barrymore, Nicole Kidman, Timothée Chalamet, Sydney Sweeney, JoJo Siwa, and Melania Trump became fan favorites, while recurring sketches like Domingo further cemented her popularity. Promoted to repertory status in 2021, she eventually became the show’s longest-tenured female cast member before making her final appearance during Will Ferrell’s Season 51 finale in May 2026.

With SNL now in the rearview mirror, Fineman is not taking a break, she is stepping into one of the busiest chapters of her career yet.

Leading the way is Netflix’s upcoming drama series Myron Bolitar, where she takes on a series regular role as sports reporter Parker Quinn in the David E.
