It is always a bummer for fans to see actors stepping down from their legendary roles. While these departures may not make sense to someone looking in from the outside, actors don’t just ghost their roles for the fun of it. When Henry Cavill announced his exit from DCU, it brought a wave of heartbreak among fans. These heartbroken fans recently stumbled upon another bummed-out superhero fandom, leading to a sad fans get-together on X, formerly known as Twitter.
After Christopher Reeve, Cavill became the quintessential Superman for DC enthusiasts. With skepticism surrounding the new face of Superman, fans have been increasingly pining for Cavill. This is the same sentiment that even Andrew Garfield’s fans relate to. The British actor passed the Peter Parker baton to Tom Holland after the lukewarm box office reception of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. Recently, a clip from Garfield’s 2018 movie, Under the Silver Lake, has been surfacing online, where he provides an easter egg to his Marvel role.
Cavill fans crying how they can never move on from his Superman meanwhile I had to watch my Spider-man actor literally trow away a Spider-man comic in another movie as a symbol of him moving on. You don't know real pain. pic.twitter.com/ia6wpsSUVV

After taking off his Spidey suit, Garfield starred in the David Robert Mitchell film, which features a scene where his character gets his hand stuck on a sticky Spider-Man comic book. In the scene, Garfield’s character, Sam’s bloody hand, clung to the comic book, leading him to fling the book far out of the frame in frustration. In a 2022 interview with UPROXX, the actor revealed that this scene was already in the script and he had no hand in adding the reference.
However, the actor did express his excitement about the reference to Spider-Man in the surrealist neo-noir mystery film. Little did the 40-year-old know that a year later this small reference would cause his fandom to shed some tears.
Fans coping with the absence of Henry Cavill and Andrew Garfield from iconic superhero roles
A Twitter account @ClarkQuill97 started the sad-fan-fest by sharing the clip of Garfield’s 2018 movie on X. However, it was the caption that sparked a debate among fans about who is on the sadder side. The page talked about the scene where the Golden Globe-winning actor threw away the Spider-Man comic “as a symbol of him moving on”. The X user also pointed to the DC fans saying, “You don’t know real pain”. As soon as the post hit the feed, fans started to flood the platform with their own rough patches following the exit dramas with Comic Book movies.
Both are my favorite live action versions of the characters and I will whine about losing them until I die.
I will always hope for Amazing 3 or a MoS2.

Both were unceremoniously let go due to studio incompetence. The difference is us Garfield fans got to get closure with No Way Home (only reason I saw it in theaters after Sony screwed us over by not making Amazing Spiderman 3). Cavill fans (also me) will never get that closure

Some fans also talked about Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s 2011 film Green Lantern. They said how the movie was going to get its universe, but that dream never saw fruition.
Real pain? Green Lantern is my favorite character. That movie was supposed to kick off a universe of films. It did so bad it made Hal untouchable for over a decade on film. At least there’s good Spidey movies with another actor.

but I’m a fan of both…

Users even claimed Garfield to be the best Spider-Man of all time. However, there was also a section of Marvel enthusiasts who thought Holland to be a better choice for Peter Parker.
I’m gonna say the controversial truth, Garfield was the absolute best actor to ever put out the spider on their back. Nothing but respect for my Spider-Man.

Tom Holland better

While Holland undoubtedly did justice to the character, only time will tell if David Corenswet could live up to the standards of Cavill.
