Anthony Mackie has teased that there is a lot of doom coming to the MCU. Avengers: Doomsday will be a major test for Marvel to see if they can recapture their golden-era box-office success and transition toward a new generation of heroes. It will ultimately determine whether Marvel’s next generation can step out of the shadow of legacy heroes like Tony Stark and Steve Rogers.

As the new Captain America, Mackie will lead the unified Avengers team for the first time. Ahead of its premiere, the star has teased what fans can expect from the highly anticipated December release.

A lot of doom is about to follow Avengers: Doomsday

Anthony Mackie recently appeared at the San Diego Comic-Con Málaga 2026 alongside David Harbour and Winston Duke. There, he teased the biggest threat to look out for in Avengers: Doomsday, hinting at an overwhelming presence of Doctor Doom.

"I think the big thing is the amount of doom you’re going to see. It’s like every corner we turn, every time somebody speaks, it’s like, ‘Yo there’s a lot of doom outside'".

Apart from the tease, Mackie also shared that whenever he, Chris Evans, and Sebastian Stan get together, their conversations eventually turn to the possibility of one of them dying in the MCU. The trio spends most of their time laughing and joking about what is happening in their lives and careers, until Stan breaks the laughter by asking which one of the three is going to die.

While the trip may not know who will meet their end, the fandom does have some popular theories.

Marvel characters on borrowed time

Bucky Barnes may be heading toward one of the most heartbreaking deaths in the MCU. The character is currently one of the most frequently rumored casualties of Avengers: Doomsday. One alleged leak claims that Victor Von Doom will k*** Bucky during a major confrontation in Latveria, while another suggests that the former Winter Soldier could willingly sacrifice himself to protect Captain America and Yelena Belova.

Either outcome would give the film a major emotional blow, particularly because Bucky’s death could become the catalyst that finally brings the fractured Avengers and Thunderbolts together against their common enemy. Major leaks also claim that Doctor Doom will travel to the center of the multiverse and confront Loki at the Tree of Life. Doom allegedly k**** Loki and removes his heart to harvest the timeline-anchoring magic within it.

The X-Men could also suffer major losses in Avengers: Doomsday, according to several alleged leaks. Charles Xavier, Mystique, and Nightcrawler are reportedly among the Fox-era characters who could be k***** off. From a franchise perspective, their deaths would give Marvel a natural way to close the book on the legacy X-Men universe.

It would also clear the path for the MCU to introduce its own rebooted mutant lineup. Thor, meanwhile, has become the subject of a separate fan theory about death and rebirth. Some fans speculate that Chris Hemsworth’s Thor may need to die to pave the way for a mythological transformation, potentially to return with abilities and power beyond anything he has previously displayed in the MCU.
