Nia Sondaya has been promoted to a series regular for Yellowjackets’ final run. Akilah first appeared in Season 2 as one of the high school soccer players who got stranded after the wilderness plane crash. She survived multiple dangerous situations, which included her intense fight with Lottie (Courtney Eaton) at the end of Season 3, the outcome of which remained uncertain.

According to Deadline, Sondaya's elevation to regular status signals that Akilah will play a larger, more central role in Season 4, which will show her character development through two different periods of her life. Fans are buzzing about what this could mean for her character, which includes the possibility that she will finally leave the wilderness while she undergoes new emotional challenges. 

Akilah will appear in the current time period of the show following her disappearance at the end of the third season. This casting decision also reflects the showrunners’ intent to resolve lingering mysteries, which include Akilah’s fate as the series approaches its dramatic conclusion.

Yellowjackets Season 4 arrives in the latter half of 2026, concluding its saga with all the glory of its wilderness, showcasing a deeply moving story. With the final season's production taking place in Vancouver in early 2026, the show should be made available by Showtime on Paramount+ soon.

“After three incredible seasons, and great consideration, we’re excited to announce that we will be bringing the story of Yellowjackets to its twisted conclusion in this fourth and final season,” wrote series creators and co-showrunners Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson on Instagram.

Packing in its dual-timeline saga, mapping the thrilling wilderness in 1996 to the psychological fallout of the present day, the show will return one last time with Season 4. Along with the expansion of beloved character arcs, the final season of this explosive thriller is also poised to resolve lingering mysteries.
