Marvel has spent years teasing mutants like a party guest who keeps promising to arrive, but Kevin Feige finally appears ready to open the door. Following Avengers: Secret Wars, the X-Men are expected to anchor a streamlined new MCU reality, with Jake Schreier directing and Marvel reportedly seeking younger, emerging actors to build its next mutant generation.

Thankfully, the guessing game is finally getting some answers, as several X-Men castings have now been confirmed and the mutant roster is taking shape.

We all could have guessed who would become the first confirmed new face of the X-Men, because Sadie Sink practically arrived wearing a Jean Grey name tag. After years of fan casting, Sink was heavily rumored for a secret role in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, only for Marvel to reveal the obvious answer. Look at her!

Kevin Feige and Louis D'Esposito apparently liked the fit so much that Sink never auditioned for Jean Grey. Instead, Marvel executives summoned her for a surprise meeting and offered the role directly, completing the casting prophecy that fans had been writing themselves for years. Even Sink reportedly saw the rumors trending just two days before Marvel called.

The delicious irony is that Sadie Sink knew nothing about Jean Grey before accepting the role and had never watched an X-Men movie. Once she researched the character, however, the decision became a no-brainer, particularly after playing Jean in Spider-Man: Brand New Day as a grief-stricken antagonist rather than a conventional villain. Now, with a multi-film Marvel deal, the Phoenix is officially preparing for takeoff, but not without Cyclops.

Apparently, Marvel looked at Kit Connor and thought, “Yes, that boy needs a visor,” because the Heartstopper star is reportedly now the studio’s choice for Cyclops. Deadline’s report said Marvel Studios and Jake Schreier considered several young actors before landing on Connor, with Cooper Hoffman and Drew Starkey among the serious contenders. Scott Summers has finally found his man, pending paperwork.

Connor’s casting is not officially confirmed yet, but the report says negotiations are in the final stages, making a formal announcement feel rather inevitable. His reported pairing with Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey also fits Marvel’s younger mutant strategy rather neatly, giving the new X-Men two rising stars who can grow into the franchise together. All that remains is the visor, the leadership complex, and the rest of the X-Men casting rumors to be confirmed.

If Emma Frost was going to arrive in the MCU, Marvel could hardly have picked someone more naturally equipped to serve White Queen realness than Samara Weaving. As per Deadline, Weaving has landed the coveted role after Marvel Studios and Jake Schreier conducted an especially extensive search for the telepathic mutant. The casting also feels deliciously inevitable in hindsight.

Weaving had practically been manifesting the diamond-clad destiny herself, having shared an Emma Frost-inspired look years before Marvel began casting the reboot. With Emma Frost joining the developing roster, Marvel’s next X-Men generation is starting to look considerably more glamorous, telepathic, and dangerously well-dressed.
