WWE has apparently discovered that the forbidden door leads straight into Hollywood's costume department. The wrestling giant already dragged Netflix's Stranger Things into the squared circle for a January Raw special, while its superstars keep wandering through screens, games, and red carpets.  Apparently, ordinary entrance music and pyrotechnics were no longer enough to satisfy the crossover gods.

Now, Disney is opening another portal, and the destination is Marvel's Avengers: Doomsday.

WWE and Disney announce Avengers: Doomsday-themed Worlds Collide

WWE and Disney have announced an Avengers: Doomsday-themed edition of Worlds Collide for December 15, three days before Marvel's blockbuster hits U.S. theaters. The event takes over ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex near Orlando, featuring performers from WWE, NXT, and Mexico's AAA.

The spectacle forms part of a two-day Disney takeover. December 14 brings the inaugural John Cena Classic, where stars from Raw and SmackDown face rising NXT talent. Club WWE members will vote on the night's standout performer, and the event streams live on Netflix as a Raw edition.

Meanwhile, WWE and Fanatics are assembling WWE World, complete with superstar meet-and-greets, merchandise, and enough souvenir temptation to bankrupt a minor supervillain. Avengers: Doomsday-branded championship belts and other co-branded products will appear at the fan event, WWEShop.com, and selected Disney stores.

And Marvel's next blockbuster is already flexing a financial superpower before its first theatrical bell rings.

Avengers: Doomsday approaches Supergirl's entire box office before release

Avengers: Doomsday is reported to have an estimated $125 million in worldwide advance ticket sales. DC Studios' Supergirl finished its theatrical run at $126.47 million worldwide, according to The Numbers. That leaves Marvel close to matching a rival film's box office before opening night.

Doomsday may already have passed that figure, but a confirmed updated presales total has not been published. The $125 million number itself comes from reporting rather than a fresh official Disney announcement. This is advance revenue, not ticket sales earned during a theatrical run.

Disney had publicly confirmed $50 million in presales back in September, demonstrating early demand for the December 18 release. Robert Downey Jr.'s Doctor Doom will confront heroes spanning multiple Marvel universes, with the Russo brothers directing.
