Matt Damon has invited Quentin Tarantino to write a movie for him and Ben Affleck. The pair have been friends since boyhood and show no interest in seeing other people in the casting department. Tarantino recently praised their chemistry and said he loves seeing them together. Damon is closing out a year led by The Rip and The Odyssey, so the timing is ideal. He kept the tone light, but his request was clear: he and Affleck would happily star in a Tarantino movie.
Every good pitch needs an opening act, and this one arrived as a magazine essay full of flattering things about Damon.
Matt Damon pitches Quentin Tarantino a movie after The Rip praise
Matt Damon responded to Quentin Tarantino’s praise by asking him to write a film for himself and Ben Affleck. In Sight and Sound, Tarantino wrote about The Rip and noted that audiences may take Damon’s skills for granted. He also said Damon and Affleck are better together.
“Well, he should write us a movie,” Damon told GQ.
He then added, “We would be very happy if he did that,” sealing the invitation.

GQ opened the interview with Tarantino’s praise, and Damon called it amazing coming from him while confirming he had already heard about it. The actor also pointed to Artists Equity, the company he shares with Affleck, as a home for projects they truly want. At this stage of life, the pair treats new work with a casual why not, driven by a boyhood dream to keep making films together.
While Damon places an order with Tarantino, he refuses to assume anything, not even a repeat of his biggest year.
Matt Damon is not chasing a third career peak after The Odyssey
Matt Damon is not expecting a third career-defining moment after Good Will Hunting and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. GQ asked whether those two milestones, which landed 29 years apart, might lead to a hat trick. Damon replied that he has no right to expect anything like that to happen again. He added that he feels enormous gratitude that The Odyssey came along his path at this point.

Damon also noted that no film is a sure thing, though The Odyssey earned roughly three times what The Martian did. Breaking even at that budget level, he said, takes numbers far beyond his usual films. Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert later pulled him into a nearly finished science-fiction film, after which he plans a long break. Lightning has struck twice for Damon, and he is not checking the forecast, but a Quentin Tarantino script for him and Ben Affleck would be a fine reason to keep an umbrella handy.
