He further explained that the unusual theory traces back to a comment from McConaughey's mother, Mary Kathleen “Kay” McCabe, during a family vacation in Greece years ago. She reportedly said she had known Harrelson's father, Charles Harrelson, before McConaughey was born.

Brothers takes the real-life friendship between Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson and pushes the brotherhood mystery into a fictional comedy. The actors play exaggerated versions of themselves, with the story beginning after Woody's daughter's wedding falls apart.

Woody heads to Matthew's Austin ranch, where McConaughey's mother, Ma Mac, accidentally reveals a decades-old secret suggesting that the two friends could be related. Woody then becomes determined to uncover the truth, sending the story into increasingly chaotic territory. Matthew has another problem on his hands as he considers a potential run for governor of Texas.

Holland Taylor plays Ma Mac, while Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, and several other actors join the ensemble. The eight-episode series premieres on Apple TV on September 23, 2026, with two episodes arriving first. New episodes will follow weekly through November 4.
