Judi Dench has not forgotten Robin Williams’ sweet gesture for her husband, even after all these years. The actress has opened up about her life and career in her memoir, Is It Too Late to Make a Run for It? However, ahead of the release of the book, she has also shared stories about her life and people who had an impact on her.

One such story goes back to when her husband, Michael Williams, was struggling with lung cancer, and they met Robin Williams. She recalled the entire incident in which the Mrs. Doubtfire actor made a simple yet heartwarming gesture.

Judi Dench remembers Robin Williams’ heartfelt gesture

In a conversation with PEOPLE, Judi Dench recalled meeting Robin Williams while she and her husband, Michael Williams, were staying at Billy Connolly’s home in Scotland. She remembered attending a bonfire party in the woods when her husband, who was struggling with lung cancer at the time, began to feel exhausted. They decided to leave and started walking up a hill. That was when Robin offered to help, but Michael politely declined. However, rather than leaving it at that, the Good Will Hunting actor responded with a heartwarming gesture.

“And Robin said, ‘Well, I think I’ll ride shotgun anyway’, which was such a lovely thing to say. I’ve often thought about that moment — Robin’s sensitivity and understanding, just offering to be there, gently supportive, without imposing himself,” she recalled.

As Dench recalled while talking to PEOPLE, the actress was touched by Robin’s gesture, which she has never forgotten. The two had previously worked together in Hamlet in 1996. Dench’s husband passed away in 2001 at the age of 65, while Robin died in 2014 at the age of 63. However, Dench has made sure to share this heartwarming story with the public. In the past few months, Dench has shared much about her life, career, ambitions at her age, and opinions on the current state of the entertainment industry.

And there is one thing about theaters and movies that she is not particularly fond of.

Judi Dench points out her isseus with trigger warnings

Judi Dench once opened up about how content advisories in recent years have ended up revealing too many details before a film. She said that this takes away the element of surprise for the audience and ruins the experience. She further suggested that an element of surprise allows people to watch something unexpected and pushes them beyond their comfort zone.

“I think they have gone too far. It's mollycoddling. If you're that sensitive, don't go to the theater,” she said in a conversation with Brendan O’Hea for her memoir, Is It Too Late to Make a Run for It? in an extract published by The Times.

However, the actress did not suggest the complete removal of it. She added that important warnings, such as those about strobe lighting, g*******, and age restrictions for children, should be included before the film. Meanwhile, the rest should be left for the audience to experience. She shared several more of her candid thoughts in recent interviews and, most importantly, in her memoir.
