Henry Cavill may no longer be the iconic DC’s Superman or The Witcher’s Geralt, but he is still capable of wielding a mighty sword and dispatching his foes. This prowess will come to light in the upcoming Highlander reboot, where Cavill is set to leave his mark. The 1986 sci-fi fantasy series spawned various movies, animated adaptations, and live-action attempts, but none quite captured the audience’s hearts like the original film.

With Cavill now stepping into the lead role for the reboot, there is a gleam of hope. The director, too, sees a glimmer of hope for the future and has grand plans in store for this project.

How much Highlander is too much Highlander? Well, when the charismatic The Witcher actor steps into the spotlight, it seems there is no such thing as “too much. After stepping away from some major projects, fans are eager to see him in any capacity. According to Chad Stahelski, this reboot will serve as a prequel to the beloved fantasy series, and he is not stopping at just one film–he envisions an entire cinematic franchise in the making.

In a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast with Josh Horowitz, Stahelski revealed, “We have room to grow the property.” This was while letting us in on his franchise plans, the director of John Wick spilled the beans. Further, it was in this candid moment that he let slip that the reboot would draw inspiration from the entire TV series as well as the original movie, leaving the door wide open for exciting new additions.

In the Highlander reboot, the filmmakers are revitalizing the story by drawing from the original movie’s captivating premise. It all begins with Connor MacLeod, a warrior from Clan MacLeod, who miraculously resurrects after a battle with the fierce Kurgan. They both belong to an ancient race of immortals, possessing “The Quickening,” which grants them immortality unless beheaded.

Throughout history, immortals have engaged in battles. They absorb the Quickening power from those they defeat, with the ultimate showdown called The Gathering on the horizon. While the original movie hinted at Connor being the last, the TV series suggested otherwise. Now, director Stahelski will hint at exploring the events that led up to The Gathering. Further, it promises an exciting journey into the past or an intense look at the Kurgan-Connor rivalry before the climactic face-off.
