Wolverine remains one of the most popular superheroes in the Marvel universe, thanks to his adamantium claws, healing factor, and long history with the X-Men. He has been a mainstay of Marvel Comics and Fox’s X-Men film series, becoming one of the most recognizable mutants in pop culture. As the Marvel Cinematic Universe expands its multiverse saga and slowly but surely adds more mutants to the fold, speculation has continued to grow about which iconic X-Men characters could appear in Avengers: Doomsday. 

Now, Marvel's silence has only fueled speculation about whether Wolverine will make his long-awaited MCU return. 

There has not been an official confirmation of Wolverine's involvement in Avengers: Doomsday, but there are strong rumors that Hugh Jackman will make an appearance in the movie. The actor was notably absent from Marvel’s first X-Men cast announcement, sparking rumors that his return is being kept under wraps as a big surprise. There is no official confirmation, but reports and fan theories continue to suggest that Wolverine may make an appearance when the blockbuster hits theaters. 

The rumor mill has only gotten louder, with several big names from the original X-Men cast already confirmed for Avengers: Doomsday, and Wolverine being the most obvious omission. Given the popularity of this character, and the fact that the Marvel Cinematic Universe is currently building towards the multiverse, many fans think that perhaps his missing from the announced cast is intentional, keeping one of the film’s biggest reveals hidden until it hits theaters. 

Additionally, Hugh Jackman has also weighed in on speculation of a role in Avengers: Doomsday after his return as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine. While speaking on The View, Jackman said that he had no updates to share about a possible appearance in Avengers: Doomsday. He then joked that Wolverine would dominate every other character if he was back, but made it clear he really had nothing to say about returning to the role in Marvel’s next crossover film.

While Wolverine's return remains uncertain, several familiar X-Men faces have already been confirmed for the blockbuster. 

Avengers: Doomsday is already set to feature several actors from Fox's original X-Men franchise. Marvel has confirmed the return of Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, James Marsden as Cyclops, Rebecca Romijn as Mystique, Alan Cumming as Nightcrawler, Kelsey Grammer as Beast, and Channing Tatum as Gambit following his MCU debut in Deadpool & Wolverine. Their inclusion has further fueled speculation that Hugh Jackman's Wolverine could also join the film, even though Marvel has yet to officially confirm his return. 

Until Marvel makes an official announcement, Wolverine's role in Avengers: Doomsday remains the subject of speculation. However, with several original X-Men stars already confirmed, Jackman's continued connection to the character, and the MCU's multiverse storyline, the possibility of his return remains stronger than ever. If Wolverine does appear, it would mark another major milestone in Marvel's effort to unite the legacy X-Men universe with the MCU.
