As Toy Story 5 brought audiences back together with Woody, Buzz Lightyear, and the rest of Andy’s beloved toys, interest in the future of Pixar’s flagship franchise has only continued to grow. More than 30 years after the original film revolutionized animation, the series remains one of Disney and Pixar’s most popular ones. With the next chapter now here, many fans are already looking beyond the sequel and wondering what the long-term future of the iconic franchise could hold.
Meanwhile, the statements made by creative artists behind Toy Story have led to speculations of one more sequel.

Toy Story 5 is here to bring a twist to this favorite franchise and introduce Bonnie, who finds herself battling technology and friendship issues. With fans already asking what could be next, it looks like a sequel might be possible. While there’s been no sixth film announced, the continued popularity of the toys has led to questions about whether Pixar might continue the saga beyond Toy Story 5.
"If you're gonna do another Toy Story, it better be worthwhile," Tom Hanks, who voiced Woody, has recently expressed his hopes and told Entertainment Weekly.
The fact that Toy Story 5 really does not wrap anything up is a strong indication that a sixth movie might happen. Director Andrew Stanton recently revealed he considers it the second in a trilogy. Stanton told The Hollywood Reporter that Toy Story 3 was the end of the Andy years, but they do have another trilogy with Bonnie. This means Toy Story 6 would probably cover the toys' time with Bonnie.
If Stanton's vision for the Bonnie era as a trilogy holds, Toy Story 5 may be setting the stage for one final chapter rather than bringing the franchise to a close.
Why Toy Story 5's ending could pave the way for Toy Story 6
Toy Story 5 ends with Bonnie in a much better place, the toys helping her to forge a real friendship with Blaze, another toy lover. The film expands the franchise's human side beyond a single child by introducing Blaze and developing a relationship between the two girls. The finale is not a final goodbye, but rather a new dynamic that can continue to grow. That gives Pixar plenty to work with for a Toy Story 6.

Meanwhile, although Pixar has not announced Toy Story 6, the creative vision behind Toy Story 5, and comments from key figures, appear to suggest that there could be more stories to tell. Tom Hanks has made it clear that any future installment must be worthwhile, while Andrew Stanton’s view of the Bonnie era as a trilogy points to a narrative that is far from complete. Thus, Toy Story 5 seems to leave the door open for another chapter, whether or not a sixth film will ultimately materialize.
