Fans initially expected a single definitive feature, but recent updates suggest the narrative scope of the legendary performer is simply too vast to cover in one sitting. Despite viral speculation, Lionsgate has not officially confirmed a second film (Michael 2) or tha specific 2027 release for a follow-up.

Although they are not ready to confirm a sequel, the studio is positioning itself to expand the franchise quickly, as reported in November 2025. This approach ensures that no era of the singer's complex life feels rushed or omitted to meet a standard runtime.

“I can tell you that the creative team is hard at work making sure that we’re in a position to deliver more Michael soon after we release the first film,” Adam Fogelson told analysts on Thursday during a call.

According to Deadline (May 2025), Lionsgate considered splitting its Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, into two films to cover his massive musical legacy properly. Film chief Adam Fogelson noted the studio is questioning whether his extensive contributions to art can fit comfortably into a single movie.

“We’ll be ready to answer more specifically in the coming weeks”, Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson said, as per Deadline.
