The Marvel Cinematic Universe has never been short on surprises, especially when it comes to characters whose stories appear to have reached a natural stopping point. With Avengers: Doomsday bringing together heroes, villains, variants, and characters from across the multiverse, fans are once again wondering which familiar faces could turn up when the stakes reach their highest. Among the characters whose potential return has sparked plenty of speculation is Sylvie, played by Sophia Di Martino.

After the events of Loki Season 2, her story was left deliberately open-ended, giving Marvel plenty of room to revisit the character. But could that next chapter begin in Avengers: Doomsday?

Sylvie's next MCU chapter could still be wide open

At present, there is no official confirmation that Sophia Di Martino will reprise her role as Sylvie in Avengers: Doomsday. She is not included among the announced cast members, despite the film's enormous ensemble featuring characters from the MCU, Fox's X-Men films, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts, and several other corners of the Marvel universe.

Speculation surrounding Sylvie intensified in 2025 after a since-deleted Instagram post from Di Martino and reports involving her stunt double near UK filming locations. However, neither development confirmed her involvement. For now, Sylvie's future remains uncertain, although her connection to Loki and her determination to protect free will give Marvel several natural ways to bring her back.

And if Marvel is willing to pull characters from entirely different universes into the same story, the possibilities become even more intriguing.

Tobey Maguire was reportedly meant to enter Doomsday swinging

In August 2026, insider Alex Perez added to the long-standing speculation about the Avengers: Doomsday's original form while speaking with The Cosmic Circus Discord and his Patreon members. According to Perez, the plan reportedly involved Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man battling the X-Men and their rogues' gallery. Perez was, however, not certain whether Marvel ultimately kept the villains in the sequence or scaled the confrontation down to Spider-Man himself.

Either way, the reported opening highlights just how ambitious the multiverse crossover could be. The uncertainty also leaves room for Marvel to have significantly reshaped the sequence before it reached the final cut. If the reported setup is even partly accurate, Doomsday could be opening with a crossover far bigger than fans initially expected.

Alex Perez also declined to reveal whether Maguire's Spider-Man survives Doomsday and Secret Wars, but said sources had told him that the actor appears in both films. If accurate, his involvement would make the multiverse story considerably more expansive and potentially create even more opportunities for unexpected characters like Sylvie to cross paths with other Marvel heroes.

Sylvie's story does not necessarily need to end with Loki. Her fight against threats to free will, her connection to Loki, and the MCU's continuing multiverse storyline all leave the door open for a future appearance. Avengers: Secret Wars could ultimately provide an even bigger opportunity for her return. For now, however, fans should treat any Doomsday appearance as speculation rather than confirmation.
