Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff’s early lives and rise to fame are set to inspire a new series. The story of the iconic hip-hop duo goes all the way back to the 1980s, when they began building their music careers. Their success soon grew with hit songs such as 'Parents Just Don’t Understand' and 'Summertime.'

Now, their journey from aspiring artists to Grammy-winning stars is set to be explored in a new series.

Deadline recently announced that Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff are the inspiration behind a new scripted series, 215. The series is expected to chronicle their early struggles in life and career, their creative partnership, and their rise to fame in the hip-hop world. It will follow the story of two teenage friends as they chase a record deal in Philadelphia’s hip-hop scene while dealing with label meetings, friendships, and the challenges that come with pursuing a career in music.

This series is the first project under Smith’s company Westbrook Studios’ partnership with The Malar Group, founded by Sayan Navaratnam. However, it is just the beginning of the partnership. Westbrook Studios will continue to develop and produce projects funded by The Malar Group, as reported by Deadline.

“215 is especially meaningful to us because it draws from the rise of DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince and celebrates Philadelphia during such a defining era in the city’s late-’80s/early-’90s hip-hop scene,” Terence Carter, President of Television, Westbrook Studios, said about the project, as per Deadline.

Now, apart from their musical projects, Will Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff have collaborated on a show before. The two starred in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. While Will Smith played the role of a fictionalized version of himself, DJ Jazzy Jeff portrayed his best friend.

So, until the show based on their real-life and careers comes to screen, fans can revisit their partnership in the beloved ’90s sitcom.

All six seasons of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air are available to stream on Hulu, while episodes can also be purchased on Amazon Prime Video. The show follows Will Smith, who starred in The Legend of Bagger Vance and Independence Day, as a fictionalized version of himself. It is about a teenager from West Philadelphia who is sent to live with his wealthy aunt and uncle in Bel-Air.

However, living in the posh neighborhood of Bel-Air with a wealthy family comes with its own hilarious trials and tribulations. James Avery, Alfonso Ribeiro, Karyn Parsons, and Tatyana M. Ali are also part of the cast. The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air is one of the most popular sitcoms of the ’90s and is worth revisiting before the new series arrives on screen.
