Nightwing began as the Boy Wonder, but Dick Grayson’s journey never stayed confined to Batman’s shadow. As Bruce Wayne’s first Robin, Dick became one of Gotham’s important young heroes before leaving the Robin mantle behind and embracing a new identity of his own.

As Nightwing, he found a home in Blüdhaven, building his reputation as a protector while remaining deeply connected to the Bat-Family. That evolution has made Dick one of DC’s enduring characters, with his history as Robin shaping his heroic identity.

Now, a new casting report has put Mason Thames’ name into the Nightwing conversation again.

A September 21 report from Dark Horizons said Mason Thames had landed the role of Dick Grayson/Nightwing in DC Studios and Warner Bros.’ animated Dynamic Duo. The report originated with The InSneider, which also linked Logan Kim to Jason Todd, and said other casting details were being pursued.

TheWrap later confirmed the key part of the report: Thames will voice Dick Grayson, specifically as Robin, in Dynamic Duo. Thames also shared comics featuring Grayson as Nightwing on Instagram after the casting news emerged. That detail explains the Nightwing speculation, but it does not establish that Thames has been cast as the live-action DCU’s Nightwing.

Dynamic Duo centers on Dick Grayson and Jason Todd during their younger years. The film gives the pair an altered origin, portraying them as orphaned childhood friends before their paths split, with Dick becoming Batman’s Robin and Jason becoming connected to the Red Hood Gang. Lee Pace and Steve Buscemi are also attached as members of that gang. Warner Bros. currently has the film dated for September 22, 2028.

That leaves the bigger Nightwing question tied to the DCU’s live-action Batman plans.

DC Studios announced The Brave and the Bold as the DCU’s Batman movie, with Andy Muschietti attached to direct. The story is built around Bruce Wayne and his son Damian Wayne, who becomes Robin, while DC Studios has also said the film will feature members of the extended Bat-Family.

That setup has naturally fueled speculation about characters such as Nightwing, Red Hood and Batwoman appearing in Batman’s wider circle. DC Studios has not announced Mason Thames as the live-action Dick Grayson, so the current evidence connects him to Dynamic Duo as the voice of young Dick Grayson.

There is no plans to release the film until 2029, as fans will be treated to The Batman: Part II in 2028, and James Gunn too has been secretive on the release, casting and other facets of the project. For now, fans have a confirmed animated Robin and an unconfirmed live-action Nightwing possibility to keep an eye on.
