Gal Gadot has finally opened up about her future in the DC Universe and whether there is still a chance for her to return as Wonder Woman. In the last three years, fans had hoped for an update on whether Gadot would return for a third Wonder Woman film in James Gunn and Peter Safran's rebooted DC Universe. After all, the actress breathed new life into the iconic character when she made her debut as the DC hero in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, before starring in several other films in the DC universe.

However, the future of her version of Diana Prince remained uncertain while Gunn rebooted the DC universe. Now, after years of silence, Gadot has finally addressed her future in the franchise, and her latest comments appear to put the concerns to rest.

Gal Gadot recently spoke with ScreenRant’s Grant Hermanns about her new Prime Video movie, The Runner. When asked about the possibility of returning to the DC Universe, the actress revealed that she has not had any “specific” conversations with James Gunn or DC Studios about reprising her role as Wonder Woman in the newly rebooted universe.

She further explained that although there had been discussions about a third Wonder Woman movie, there was never any conversation about her returning as Diana Prince or taking on another role in the DCU. Gadot previously starred in two solo Wonder Woman movies, Wonder Woman and Wonder Woman 1984. While her return remains uncertain, Gunn has confirmed that a new Wonder Woman movie is in the works, with Supergirl writer Ana Nogueira working on the script. 

However, no casting details have been announced yet. With Gadot seemingly having closed the chapter on her time as Wonder Woman, she expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to play the role during her interview with Screenrant. The actress also had a few words of encouragement for whoever takes up the iconic role next.

“This is such an incredible character that so many of us care about so much, so whoever it's going to be to portray her, I wish for her that she enjoys this amazing ride with this amazing character,” she said.

Now, Gadot may be leaving Wonder Woman behind, but she has continued to take on more intense roles. In her new film The Runner, the actress plays a mother thrust into a terrifying race against time.

Gal Gadot stars in the film The Runner, where she plays Maia, an elite lawyer whose life seems perfect. However, her world takes a devastating turn when she receives a call claiming that her son has been kidnapped. This begins the psychological thriller film, where the mysterious caller orders Maia to follow a series of instructions if she wants to save her son.

Damian Lewis, Alfred Enoch, and Rory Wilmot also star in the film. The Runner will be available to stream on Amazon Prime Video on August 28, 2026. For now, Gadot seems to have closed the chapter on her Wonder Woman era, while seemingly passing the torch to the next actress who will take on the iconic role.
