Agatha Christie’s beloved amateur detectives are getting a contemporary makeover. Tommy & Tuppence, BritBox’s upcoming six-part mystery series, takes the iconic duo out of their original 20th-century setting and places them in present-day London, where old romance, new murders, and complicated relationships collide. The series premieres on September 15, 2026, with two episodes on launch day followed by weekly episodes.

And while the premise may be familiar to Christie fans, the actors playing these characters bring an entirely new energy to the classic partnership. From The Good Doctor star Antonia Thomas to The Buccaneers actor Josh Dylan and acclaimed performer Imelda Staunton, here is a closer look at who plays who in Tommy & Tuppence.

Antonia Thomas as Tuppence Cowley: Antonia Thomas plays Tuppence Cowley, the impulsive, determined half of the famous detective duo. In this contemporary interpretation, Tuppence is an actress described as a force of nature who refuses to take no for an answer.

Josh Dylan as Tommy Beresford: Josh Dylan takes on the role of Tommy Beresford, Tuppence's former partner and the more methodical member of the investigative duo. Tommy is a crime novelist who has lost his passion for writing. 

Imelda Staunton as Aunt Ada: Imelda Staunton plays Aunt Ada, Tommy's formidable great-aunt and an experienced retired private detective. Aunt Ada isn't simply a supporting family member. 

Nicholas Richardson as Julius: Nicholas Richardson plays Julius, a charismatic film producer who is closely connected to Tuppence's complicated personal life. Julius is Tuppence's husband in this modern adaptation and is determined to win her back, adding another complication to the already tangled relationship between Tommy and Tuppence.

Charlie Condou as Albert: Callie Cooke plays Detective Sergeant Draper, a smart and idealistic young police officer. Draper is particularly interesting because she admires Tommy, creating the potential for another dynamic around the amateur detective. 

Chizzy Akudolu as Detective Inspector Merriot: Chizzy Akudolu plays Detective Inspector Merriot, a sharp and no-nonsense member of the police force. Merriot provides a more authoritative contrast to Tommy and Tuppence's amateur approach to crime solving.

Fola Evans-Akingbola as Tatiana: Fola Evans-Akingbola is also part of the ensemble as Tatiana. The official BritBox cast listing confirms Evans-Akingbola among the series' cast, alongside actors including Lucie Shorthouse, Della Saba and Alara-Star Khan.

Lucie Shorthouse as Mary: Lucie Shorthouse plays Mary, another recurring character in the series. Shorthouse is known for her work across British television and comedy, including Peaky Blinders, Red Dwarf and Extraordinary. 

Della Saba as Lina Weaver: Della Saba appears as Lina Weaver. Saba has worked across television, film and theatre, with credits including The End of the F**ing World*, Black Mirror and The Power. Her role is part of the wider ensemble supporting the central mystery-driven narrative.

Alara-Star Khan as Hetty Copleigh: Alara-Star Khan plays Hetty Copleigh. Khan is among the recurring cast members listed by BritBox alongside Fola Evans-Akingbola, Lucie Shorthouse and Della Saba. Her inclusion adds to the younger, contemporary ensemble surrounding the two amateur detectives.

Alexa Davies as Fran: Alexa Davies is also part of the cast as Fran. Davies has appeared in a range of British productions, including Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Raised by Wolves and Dead Pixels. BritBox lists Fran among the series' cast.

But bringing this modern reimagining to life is a cast of talented actors who put their own spin on the iconic characters and the story of the classic.

The story begins when former lovers Tommy Beresford and Tuppence Cowley unexpectedly reunite at a lavish wedding after roughly a decade apart following a difficult breakup. Their reunion takes a dark turn when one of the wedding guests is murdered. When an old friend becomes the prime suspect, Tommy and Tuppence decide to investigate the case themselves.

With Aunt Ada offering her experience and guidance, the pair find themselves drawn into a world of secrets, suspects, red herrings and hidden motives. Their investigations also reignite the chemistry between them, creating a will-they/won’t-they dynamic that runs alongside the murder mysteries. Tommy’s career as a crime novelist also takes an interesting turn as working alongside Tuppence helps him rediscover his inspiration. 

For longtime Christie fans, the appeal will be seeing familiar characters reimagined for contemporary London. For newcomers, Thomas and Dylan's chemistry  backed by Staunton's Aunt Ada  could provide an accessible entry point into the world of Tommy and Tuppence.
