Tom Holland may be Hollywood's favorite Spider-Man, but he is not the only performer in the Holland household. Long before the Marvel star was swinging across the big screen, his father, Dominic Holland, was already making audiences laugh with his brilliant performance. It seems that talent runs in the family.

His father often joined the actor for shows and events such as the 2018 Wimbledon men’s final. But not much is known about Dominic Holland, who had quietly built his career. So, here is a close look at Tom Holland's father.

While Tom Holland has become one of Hollywood's biggest stars, his father, Dominic Holland, built his own successful career in the entertainment industry. He is an award-winning comedian who began performing professional stand-up shortly after graduating from college. Later, his career expanded into writing, acting, and broadcasting.

Back in 1993, Holland also won the Perrier Best Newcomer Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Over the years, he has authored nine books, and that includes Eclipsed: Turns Out, Spider-Man Has a Dad After All. In this book, Holland Sr. spoke about his son's rise to fame.

Back in 2012, a 16-year-old Tom Holland even spoke to NextUp Comedy after watching his father's stand-up routine for the first time.

"He can be irritable like all dads can be, but he's a funny guy," Tom joked about it. "I was always confident that you would do a good show. I knew you weren't going to stiff."

He is a devoted father to four sons, with eldest Tom Holland, twins Sam Holland and Harry Holland, and the youngest, Paddy Holland. Holland's mother, Nikki Holland, is a photographer. Now, apart from making public appearances together and speaking fondly of each other in interviews, the father and son have also shared several hilarious family stories over the years.

Why Dominic Holland almost stopped Tom Holland's viral dance

It is hard to imagine Rihanna's 2007 hit ‘Umbrella’ without the Spider-Man actor Tom Holland's performance. Back in 2017, Holland went viral after performing the song on Lip Sync Battle. Speaking to British GQ in 2021, Holland shared that his father, Dominic Holland, had initially tried to discourage him from participating in it.

"My dad always taught me when I was younger and coming up in the business that you want to get famous as slowly as possible," Tom said. "You don't want to get super famous tomorrow, because you won't be able to handle it. It will ruin your life."

Dominic Holland was concerned that the performance could make his son famous too quickly, and he was not wrong. However, it is safe to say that the performance ultimately benefited his career. It remains one of the most talked-about performances of Holland.
