Actor and comedian Tim Allen returns as Buzz Lightyear, while Joan Cusack will voice the character, Jessie. Annie Potts will voice Bo Peep, with Tony Hale lending his voice to Forky and Keanu Reeves as Duke Caboom. The beloved character Woody will also return, once again voiced by Tom Hanks.
Interestingly, however, Woody almost did not make it into the film, as per Toy Story 5 writer and director Andrew Stanton.
Andrew Stanton reveals reason behind leaving Woody out of first draft
After Toy Story 4, many fans doubted whether Woody would return for the fifth film. In a conversation with CinemaBlend, writer and director Andrew Stanton revealed that he initially wrote the first draft of the movie without Woody. It was an experiment to see whether the story could work without the character and whether his absence would be felt.
“I do admit that I didn't know how to bring him back at first, and so I just, 'cause I know it's gonna take so many drafts to get the movie right, I just wrote the first one without him just to see if I missed him,” he said.
