Christopher Nolan did not just cast The Odyssey; he tossed the internet its very own golden apple. The filmmaker assembled a staggering 19-member ensemble led by Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, and Tom Holland, earning applause for turning Homer's epic into a modern cinematic spectacle. Then came the arguments. Lupita Nyong'o's dual role as Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, alongside Travis Scott's casting as Demodocus, sparked fierce debates over authenticity, representation, and artistic reinvention.

As though that skirmish needed reinforcement, Achilles has become the internet's latest obsession, with rumors insisting the fearless warrior has returned as a heroine.

Who claims Achilles' armor?

The internet has crowned, uncrowned, and recast Achilles several times over, yet Christopher Nolan has not confirmed anyone for the role. No, the Greek champion is not being played by a woman. That entire tale wandered farther from the truth than Odysseus ever managed, although it certainly traveled just as enthusiastically.

The voyage began with an unverified social media claim placing Elliot Page inside Achilles' armor. Before long, parts of the internet were incorrectly referring to Page as a woman, even though Page publicly transitioned years ago. A rumor with flimsy footing promptly acquired running shoes and raced across every timeline in sight.

The actual casting reports are considerably less theatrical. Elliot Page has instead been linked to Sinon, the clever architect behind the Trojan Horse ruse, or perhaps Elpenor. Both possibilities are firmly rooted in Greek lore. Neither places Page anywhere near Achilles' famously well-protected heel.

Then there is Homer's inconvenient plot, which answers the bigger question, will Achilles even be in The Odyssey? According to the story, Achilles is already among the departed by the time The Odyssey begins, appearing only as a spirit in the Underworld when Odysseus pays a memorable visit, which could lead to a memorable cameo, but not more than that. One suspects even the rumor would have checked the source material, had it been less busy conquering social media.

As The Odyssey steers toward a million-dollar IMAX spectacle, fans are drifting dangerously close to mutiny while waiting for the next mythological reveal.

The deities steering Odysseus' fate

As The Odyssey charts a course toward IMAX glory, fans are already taking attendance on Mount Olympus. Zendaya's Athena is confirmed to guide Odysseus through his impossible voyage, while Charlize Theron's Calypso and Samantha Morton's Circe promise enough divine interference to keep the seas, and the audience, thoroughly occupied. Greek mythology has rarely looked this star-studded.

The waiting game hardly ends there. Poseidon, Zeus, and Hermes remain among the most anticipated Olympians because they are woven into Homer's tale, even if Christopher Nolan has not officially revealed their on-screen roles. Until another deity steps out of the mist, however, Achilles remains the internet's favorite phantom casting rather than a confirmed one.
