Star Wars (1977), The Phantom Menace (1999), Attack of the Clones (2002), and Revenge of the Sith (2005), and the creator of the rest of the original trilogy, The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Return of the Jedi (1983), which others directed, George Lucas is a religion in himself for science fiction and cinema fans. Yet for all its brightness, Star Wars may not be the most remarkable partnership in his life. That distinction could belong to his wife, Mellody Hobson.

Although not a traditional celebrity with a filmography or discography, Mellody Hobson has a giant resume of her own.

As per her Instagram handle by the name of Mellody Hobson and a following of 155K, she is an investor, learner, teacher, happy warrior, and the co-CEO and President of Ariel Investments. However, success is its own loudest announcement, and Mellody Hobson has not done justice to her own standing.

Raised by a single mother in Chicago, the youngest of six, Mellody Hobson was the first in her bloodline to go to college. But Hobson did not just go to college at Princeton, she excelled to the extent that in October 2020, Princeton University announced it would build Hobson College.

The journey from being the first in her family to attend college to having one of the most revered universities name one after her was not easy, but Mellody Hobson did it. And in the pursuit of establishing herself, she was ranked No.94 on Forbes' Most Powerful Women in the World list. 

Apart from being the president and co-CEO of Ariel Investments, Hobson is also on the board of JPMorgan Chase & Co., the Sundance Institute, and formerly of  Starbucks Corporation, The Estée Lauder Companies. The businesswoman was also formerly involved with DreamWorks Animation as a chairperson, a financial contributor on Good Morning America, and CBS News.

With a résumé that put her in boardrooms and studio meeting rooms alike, it was perhaps inevitable that Hobson's path would cross with the man behind Star Wars.

Mellody Hobson and George Lucas first met in 2006 at a business conference in Aspen, Colorado, and had been dating since that year when they announced their engagement in January 2013. They married on June 22, 2013, at Lucas's Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, California. Journalist Bill Moyers officiated, and former U.S. Senator Bill Bradley walked Hobson down the aisle. While this was the businesswoman's first marriage, Lucas marked his second.

That partnership was on full display on September 19, when Lucas and Hobson hosted an opening-night gala for the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art in Los Angeles and half, if not three-fourth of Hollywood was in attendance. The museum, nearly two decades in the making and a project Hobson once considered shelving before Lucas refused to let it go, opens to the public on September 22 and is likely to serve as a reminder of the greatness that Mellody Hobson and George Lucas bring to the table, both individually and as partners.
