Conan O’Brien may be a household name in the entertainment world, but his wife, Liza Powell O’Brien, has largely stayed out of the spotlight, choosing a more private life. A graduate of Columbia University’s MFA program in fiction and an alumna of Vassar College, Liza is an accomplished writer. She has penned several stage works, including The Great Experiment, Ruthie Goes Shopping, and Lucky.

She also hosts and writes for the Significant Others podcast on Team Coco. Before her writing career fully took off, Liza worked as a copywriter at an advertising agency. It was during the filming of Late Night with Conan O’Brien that she met her future husband.

The couple met around 1999 and, after dating for about a year, married in Seattle at St. James Cathedral on January 12, 2002. Later, in a 2012 interview with Piers Morgan, O’Brien recalled that there must have been even a footage showing the moment he first fell in love with her.

"Somewhere, in the vault at NBC, there's footage of me literally falling for my wife on camera," he said.

The two welcomed their first child, Neve, in 2003, followed by their son, Beckett, in 2005. Neve is reportedly a student at Yale University after graduating from the Los Angeles private girls’ school, Marlborough, in 2022. As for Beckett, O’Brien has often spoken about his son’s interest in technology.

Now, the lack of information about the children is no surprise, given how O’Brien and his wife stressed about keeping their kids away from the spotlight.

Conan O’Brien talks about protecting his kids

Both Conan O’Brien and his wife, Liza Powell O’Brien, have always wanted a simple, normal upbringing for their children. That began with keeping them away from the spotlight. In an interview, O’Brien has explained why he prefers to shield them from the pressures of show business.

"I don't take my children to premieres. I don't want my kids living in a zero-gravity environment just because I happened to get lucky," he said, as per Hello Magazine. "I think I'm a good dad, but I don't want them around show business."

He has long been intentional about this process in his parenting. So, O’Brien is not just impressive on big stages like the Oscars, but he is just as remarkable in his role as a father to his kids. His family and personal life are a shining example of that dedication.
