Across three seasons, the Apple TV+ comedy, Ted Lasso transformed locker rooms into confession booths, touchlines into therapy sessions, and AFC Richmond into one of television's most beloved found families. Now, with season 4 officially wrapping a major leg of production, the next chapter is beginning to take shape.

Jason Sudeikis returns as the endlessly optimistic coach, but this time the story stretches far beyond Richmond. Production has expanded across continents, signaling a season that is expected to be the show's biggest geographic and emotional journey yet.

With filming now complete, the newly revealed locations are already offering intriguing clues about where Ted Lasso's next adventure is headed.

A new backdrop is quietly reshaping Ted Lasso's future

For the first time in the history of the series, a substantial portion of Ted Lasso was filmed outside the United Kingdom. Production began in July 2025 across Kansas City and neighboring Missouri locations, marking a significant departure from the streets of Richmond that fans have memorized over the past three seasons. Reports from local outlets and eyewitness accounts confirmed filming at recognizable landmarks including the historic Country Club Plaza, Overland Park, the legendary Gates Bar B.Q., and several sports venues and diners scattered throughout the Kansas metropolitan area.

The choice was far from random. Jason Sudeikis, a Kansas native, has often celebrated his hometown roots, making the move feel like a personal full circle moment for both the actor and his fictional counterpart. Missouri's recently expanded film tax incentives also made the region an attractive production hub. After completing the Kansas schedule in late July, filming shifted back to London, restoring the familiar setting of AFC Richmond. That return ensures that while the series broadens its horizon, the heart of Nelson Road and the club that made audiences believe in "Believe" remains firmly intact.

Those changing backdrops are doing more than refreshing the scenery. They are quietly outlining the emotional roadmap for season 4.

The dual city production hints at Ted's biggest personal crossroads yet

Season 4 is expected to revolve around Ted Lasso taking charge of a second division women's football team in the United States, opening an entirely fresh competitive landscape while staying true to the show's trademark optimism. Rather than simply repeating AFC Richmond's underdog formula, the new setting creates opportunities for fresh relationships, unfamiliar locker room dynamics, and a different generation of players learning under Ted's relentlessly compassionate leadership. The expanded setting also reflects the series' willingness to evolve instead of relying solely on nostalgia.

At the same time, London remains impossible to leave behind. Rebecca Welton, Roy Kent, Keeley Jones, and the Richmond family are all expected to continue playing meaningful roles, making the season a story split between two worlds. That geographical divide mirrors Ted's emotional conflict. One path represents the comfort of the family he built in England, while the other symbolizes the possibility of building something entirely new back home. It is the kind of bittersweet crossroads that Ted Lasso has always handled with remarkable sincerity, proving that sometimes the hardest victories happen long before the final whistle.

As production moves toward completion, season 4 appears ready to blend fresh beginnings with the emotional DNA that made the series a global phenomenon.
