After the passing of her mother, Kateri returns to her foster father, Amziah King, who gives her a job at his honey bee farm. He helps her cope with her grief and find a sense of purpose in life. The two also bond over bluegrass music and community. However, trouble soon begins when they find themselves facing a dangerous situation.

The movie previously received a theatrical release in August 2026. While Angelina LookingGlass played Kateri,  Kurt Russell, Rob Morgan, Cole Sprouse, and Owen Teague are also part of the cast. As for McConaughey, the actor once again surprised audiences with his brilliant performance as the beekeeper.

The actor steals the spotlight by filming a scene without CGI.

One of the most mesmerizing scenes in The Rivals of Amziah King is when Matthew McConaughey holds a swarm of bees in his bare hands. While the beauty of the scene may have impressed viewers, McConaughey revealed that there was no CGI involved. He was trained to handle the bees weeks before filming the scene.

“I'm holding the queen bee. And if you hold the queen bee, the rest of the hive will come to protect her. If the queen bee is not irritated. They will not be irritated,” he told Jimmy Fallon during his appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.

And the actor was even stung while practicing before filming the actual scene. He was allergic to bee stings. Despite being allergic to bee stings, he was stung once during practice, though he avoided it entirely during the actual take. While the talented cast of the movie promises strong performances, scenes like this have further intrigued viewers.
