Mamma Mia! is available to stream on Starz as well as Apple TV. For those without access to these platforms, the film can also be rented on Amazon Prime Video. For anyone yet to watch this musical gem, the story follows the lively mother-daughter duo, Donna and Sophie, who run a small hotel on the fictional Greek island of Kalokairi.
But the real chaos begins when Sophie, on the eve of her wedding, secretly invites three men, believing one of them is her father, without her mother’s knowledge. This jukebox musical is an incredibly entertaining watch, but it also has a powerful story that explores meaningful relationships, especially the bond between Donna and Sophie, as well as friendships. And for a film of this promise, the director brought an impressive cast.
The 2008 movie stars Meryl Streep as Donna and Amanda Seyfried as Sophie, with Pierce Brosnan, Stellan Skarsgård, and Colin Firth playing the three potential fathers: Sam, Harry, and Bill. After grossing $706.4 million worldwide, the film’s success led to a sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, with much of the original cast returning.
So, after watching Mamma Mia!, one can continue the story by streaming its sequel online.
Streaming Guide for Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again
Unlike the original 2008 film, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again is not currently available to stream. However, it can be rented on Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. The jukebox musical romantic comedy, helmed by director Ol Parker, was released in 2018.
And serving both a sequel and a prequel, the film takes the fandom back to the nostalgic, fictional Greek island of Kalokairi. Set nearly five years later, the story follows Sophie, played by Amanda Seyfried, as she decides to pay tribute to her mother, Donna, by reopening her hotel, Bella Donna. At the same time, the film shows Donna’s past, and her journey to Kalokairi in her younger years, how she set out to find her destiny, and ultimately met Sophie’s three potential fathers.
