Girl in the Basement is one of the most bone-chilling thriller tales, showing a gritty and horrifying story of survival and crime. Built around shocking lies and betrayals, the film shows a disturbing crime that remained hidden for more than two decades until the truth finally came to light. Elisabeth Röhm puts immense effort into bringing the harrowing story to life in her directorial debut.

The film quickly became much talked about after its release in 2021. Now, more than 4 years later, the movie is available for viewers to binge-watch. Here is how to stream the movie online.

Along with a dedicated team behind the camera, the movie features a star-studded cast. Judd Nelson, Stefanie Scott, Joely Fisher, Emma Myers, Braxton Bjerken, Jake Nuttall, and Emily Topper are part of the cast. However, what makes the movie even more horrifying is that it is based on a real incident.

The movie takes inspiration from the horrifying ordeal of a young girl, Sara, who was imprisoned by her father in the basement of her family home. He tells his wife, Irene, that their daughter has run away and secretly brings food to the basement to keep Sara alive. Meanwhile, the family continues to live upstairs, unaware of what is happening below their house.

Meanwhile, Netflix, which is home to several true crime documentaries, holds one of the most baffling case documentaries, A Toxic Love Story.

What is A Toxic Love Story on Netflix?

A Toxic Love Story tells the story of a young woman, Michelle Hadley, who was wrongfully accused by her ex-fiancé, Ian Diaz, and his wife, Angela. Diaz and Angela had claimed that they were being disturbed and harassed by Hadley. In 2016, Angela falsely accused Hadley of serious crimes, including allegedly accusing Hadley of sending her threatening emails, according to a news release from the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.

Due to the false accusations, Hadley was even arrested and spent three months in jail. During that time, authorities investigated the case further and began finding out the truth, ultimately leading to Hadley’s innocence and Angela’s arrest. Angela eventually confessed to fabricating the allegations. The baffling case is explored in the documentary A Toxic Love Story, which is now streaming on Netflix.
