Citizen Vigilante premiered in North America on June 19, 2026. The film is now available to rent or purchase on major digital platforms, including Amazon Prime Video and Apple TV. Leading the film is Armie Hammer as Sanders, alongside Costas Mandylor as Interpol Chief Henry. The supporting cast also includes Neb Chupin, Vjekoslav Katušin, Dora Dimić Rakar, Lennart Betzgen, and Benjamin Schnau, bringing together a mix of Hollywood and European talent for Uwe Boll’s latest thriller.

However, not everyone can experience Citizen Vigilante just yet. The film remains unavailable for a wider theatrical release in Germany after the country’s FSK ratings board refused to grant it an age certification, citing concerns over its graphic vigilante violence and portrayal of migration-linked crime. As a result, German audiences currently face one of the biggest barriers to watching Uwe Boll’s latest action thriller.

But beyond the headlines and controversy, the film’s biggest talking point remains the story itself, a revenge thriller that places justice, morality, and social media fame on a collision course.

What is Citizen Vigilante about?

The story follows Sanders, a wealthy businessman living in Croatia, who loses faith in the justice system and begins hunting down criminals who escaped punishment. As his brutal campaign spreads across social media, Sanders unexpectedly becomes a viral hero, drawing both public support and the relentless attention of Interpol Chief Henry. What begins as one man’s quest for justice soon spirals into an international manhunt, questioning where justice truly ends and vigilantism begins.

Ironically, despite becoming a financial success on its modest budget, Citizen Vigilante has struggled to win over critics, making it one of the year’s most polarizing action releases. The film was also originally titled The Dark Knight before Warner Bros. Discovery reportedly issued a legal notice, forcing the production to rename it Citizen Vigilante ahead of release.

And while Citizen Vigilante continues to divide opinion, its gripping premise and relentless vigilante action have undoubtedly made it one of the year’s most talked-about thrillers.
