Hollywood's latest horror hits have a surprising address. Obsession, made in 20 days on a $750,000 budget by YouTuber Curry Barker, has crossed $300 million worldwide. Backrooms, adapted by 20-year-old Kane Parsons from his own YouTube series, opened to the biggest weekend in A24 history. Now another YouTube-born scare is making the rounds: A Hollow Tree.

Built on a concept brought to life on YouTube, A Hollow Tree, also known as Hollow Trees or more famously described as the creepy skinwalker movie, has a very eerie online address, leaving many pondering over where they can watch the movie.

A Hollow Tree streaming details

The currently in-discussion skinwalker movie, A Hollow Tree, requires learning some nitty-gritty before you dig in. The movie was first released in 2023 as a proof-of-concept film titled A Hollow Tree - Skinwalker movie (Award-Winning) on YouTube as a short movie. With a self-funded budget of about £9,000, Cathal Fitzpatrick went on to make the feature Hollow Trees, as per his own admission on The Honest Filmmaker podcast.

While A Hollow Tree is available on YouTube, its feature-length version, Hollow Trees, following its world premiere on July 11th at the Galway Film Fleadh or the Galway Film Festival, is not available to stream, rent, or buy online yet.

Following its release at the Galway Film Festival, Hollow Trees is gearing up for a release at the Belfast Film Festival on November 3rd. Tickets for the movie screening at the festival range from £7.00 to £12.00 under the festival's standard 'Pay What You Can' pricing model, with no booking fees. The Belfast Film Festival screening marks the movie's second big opening after the 38th Galway Film Fleadh, where it was honored as the Best Independent Irish Film.

Given how Cathal Fitzpatrick is earning its badges at various film festivals currently, it will only be a matter of time before a streamer knocks his door.

In the meantime, here is everything you need to know about the skinwalker film horror fans can't stop talking about.

Everything to know about Hollow Trees

In Hollow Trees, the world has already ended, and it is taking its sweet time finishing the job. The story begins years after a war that wiped out half of the world's population. Kent, a hardened survivor, and Danny, a young boy, are scraping out a life in a landscape that offers them no favors. Then a scavenging mission takes a turn, and Kent comes face to face with something strange and terrifying: a creature capable of imitating humans. In a world where trust is already scarce, that makes every voice a risk.

Tom Kerrisk leads the cast as Kent, with Louis Kirwan as Danny. Rosey Hayes and Colin Malone complete the principal cast. Kerrisk also played Kent in the original short, A Hollow Tree, so the feature brings back a familiar face.

The seed for the A Hallow Tree project was laid down back when Cathal Fitzpatrick was in university and made a £500 proof-of-concept short film; one that is now popular by the aforementioned title A Hollow Tree - Skinwalker movie (Award-Winning).

Following this, Fitzpatrick revealed to The Honest Filmmaker that the gazillion views on YouTube fueled him in the direction of a feature film; a vision that came true over  £9,000, a crew of elven people, and  a two-week shoot.

Curry Barker and Kane Parsons showed that a YouTube following can turn into a box-office hit, and Cathal Fitzpatrick is now making his own case, starting with a university short and ending up with an award-winning feature.
