If the Yellowstone universe ever carried its own travel journal, Dutton Ranch would probably become its wildest chapter yet. After spending years surrounded by Montana’s familiar landscape, Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler are now officially building a new life in Rio Paloma, Texas, following the show’s two-episode premiere on May 15. However, with no real location called Rio Paloma actually existing in Texas, the spin-off has now left fans questioning where Dutton Ranch was truly filmed behind the scenes.

And beyond the fictional Texas town and dusty ranch backdrop, here are the real locations that could push Beth and Rip into their newest battlefield.

Production for Dutton Ranch reportedly stretched across eight months from August 2025 to March 2026, carefully mirroring Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler’s transition from Montana into Texas. One of the series’ biggest filming hubs became Ferris, a small Texas town selected as the main production location for the spin-off, while additional ranch and bunkhouse sequences were reportedly filmed around Weatherford near Taylor Sheridan’s Bosque Ranch. Reports further revealed that the actual Dutton Ranch seen in the series is really the Saunders Ranch located in Texas.

Beyond the ranch landscapes, Dutton Ranch also quietly spread filming across several real Texas locations, including Dallas for driving and city sequences, Mineral Wells for the tense gas station scene, and Rio Vista where Episode 2’s Split Heart Bar scenes were filmed at the real Roughnecks Bar and Grill. Exterior shots were also reportedly captured in Boyd and Cleburne, further fitting in the Yellowstone universe deep inside North Texas.

And while the film may still be expanding its Texas journey, Dutton Ranch has already stormed into the spotlight with a rare 100% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Inside Dutton Ranch’s brutal new Texas turf war and returning Yellowstone cast

Created by Chad Feehan and executive produced by Taylor Sheridan, Dutton Ranch officially premiered on Paramount+ on May 15, 2026, bringing back the Yellowstone franchise’s most iconic couple into an entirely new Texas battlefield. Picking up directly after Yellowstone’s explosive finale, the series follows Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler after a devastating wildfire destroys their Montana home, forcing them to rebuild their lives in the fictional South Texas town of Rio Paloma where they establish the new Dutton Ranch in honour of John Dutton.

However, peace inside Texas barely lasts long for the couple after they collide with the ruthless Beulah Jackson and her powerful rival 10-Petal Ranch empire. Alongside Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser, the spin-off also stars Annette Bening, Ed Harris, Jai Courtney, Finn Little, and Marc Menchaca in a darker ranch-war storyline packed with local crimes, buried secrets, and violent survival battles. The series also opened to a rare perfect Rotten Tomatoes critic score before later settling slightly lower as more reviews arrived.

While Dutton Ranch may have left Montana behind, the Yellowstone universe already seems to have found another brutal frontier deep inside Texas ranch country.
