James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow is turning into a DC superhero convention with a Brainiac-sized guest list. David Corenswet’s Superman is joining forces with Nicholas Hoult’s Lex Luthor, while the Justice Gang and John Stewart’s Green Lantern are bringing their own cosmic baggage.

Somewhere in this cape-filled carnival, fans also expect Christopher Smith to arrive wearing his eagle-emblazoned helmet. Gunn has already connected Peacemaker Season 2 to the upcoming film, making the speculation understandable.

However, there is one hilarious problem: John Cena appears completely unaware he might be involved.

During a red-carpet conversation with Screen Rant, Cena was asked about rumors suggesting that Peacemaker would appear in Man of Tomorrow. His immediate reaction was beautifully bewildered.

“When did he say this?” The confusion becomes particularly amusing considering Cena’s friendship with Gunn.

The actor explained that they regularly communicate, even exchanging merman emojis inspired by Peacemaker. Their conversations apparently cover plenty of ground, including the filmmaker’s personal life and public announcements. Somehow, the supposed crossover news had completely escaped him.

Gunn previously described Peacemaker Season 2 as a prequel to Man of Tomorrow, explaining that its events lead directly into the Superman sequel. The series also ended with Christopher Smith facing an uncertain future, leaving viewers wondering how his predicament might connect to the larger DC Universe.

Meanwhile, Man of Tomorrow has already completed principal photography. Gunn announced the filming wrap in August 2026, with the movie scheduled for July 9, 2027.

Whether Peacemaker eventually joins that gathering remains uncertain, but Cena already has another action-packed adventure waiting around the corner.

John Cena is heading into dangerous territory again with Matchbox: The Movie, an Apple Original Film directed by Sam Hargrave, the filmmaker behind the Extraction franchise. Inspired by Mattel’s iconic miniature cars, the action comedy follows Sean, an undercover CIA agent played by Cena, who returns to his hometown after years away.

His unexpected reunion with childhood friends soon spirals into an international pursuit that drags the whole group into a mission with global stakes. Jessica Biel, Sam Richardson, Arturo Castro, and Teyonah Parris play Sean’s old friends. Corey Stoll, Bill Camp, Golshifteh Farahani, and Danai Gurira round out the ensemble.

Hargrave brings his stunt-heavy filmmaking experience to a story built around fast-moving vehicles, dangerous situations, and friendships suddenly tested under extraordinary pressure. The 126-minute film premieres globally on Apple TV on October 9, 2026.
