“Whatever Makes Somebody Happy”: Linda Cardellini Defends Open Marriages Amid David Harbour Relationship Controversy
HBO's newest star-studded limited series, DTF St. Louis, has been finding enough takers for its twisted, zany love triangle. The focus of the show is the trio Jason Bateman, David Harbour, and Linda Cardellini, who find themselves in a romantic triangle that is rather difficult to explain. DTF St. Louis is really about relationships - marriage, male friendship, extramarital affairs, etc. Just as the show talks about relationships and affairs, the actors have also opened up on their takes on the topic, especially Linda Cardellini and David Harbour.
What makes the two cents shared slightly sharper is that they are in light of David Harbour's recent split, one that Linda Cerdellini does not seem to have many harsh opinions about.

Following her co-star David Harbour's separation from ex-wife Lily Allen due to his alleged recurrent infidelity, Linda Cardellini has expressed her views on open relationships. In an interview with the Sunday Times, the Scooby Doo actress discreetly avoided bringing up Harbour while insisting she will not give anyone advice on how to live.
“Whatever makes somebody happy, as long as you’re being respectful and kind to each other. I’m not going to tell anybody how to live,” she said on the matter.
Cardellini was also questioned about whether the DTF cast ever talked about open relationships with one another following the release of Allen's widely discussed album 'West End Girl,' in which she subtly slipped in details alluding to the tumultuous end of their marriage.
“I mainly talked to Steve [Conrad, the director] about [open marriages]. In my group, I don’t hear about [them], but that doesn’t mean it’s not out there,” she replied.
In DTF St. Louis, the Dead to Me actress plays alongside the Stranger Things star as a husband and wife who become involved in a romantic triangle with weatherman Carl (played by Jason Bateman), which does not end very prettily. There are inevitable parallels between Harbour's recent breakup with singer Lily Allen and the HBO limited series.
In hindsight, details of Harbour’s split with Allen are out in the open, and one can find what happened in the pop star’s latest album.
Lilly Allen lays everything bare for the world to see
Lily Allen's comeback album after seven years, the chartbuster 'West End Girl,' was recorded in ten days following her messy breakup with David Harbour in December 2024, when she supposedly found out about his infidelity. She claims that David forced her into an open relationship and later broke the rules they had established in the scathingly honest lyrics (which she has acknowledged are a combination of truth and imagination).

The tracks on the album are littered with references to real-life events in their marriage, and they are all pretty easy to find. Linda Cardellini’s statement, pointedly leaving Harbour or Allen out, does not do anything more than just express her views on the trend of open marriages, avoiding any comment on fellow DTF St. Louis cast member, David Harbour’s situation.
