Avengers: Doomsday is one big ball of mystery that keeps on revealing new and interesting secrets every now and then. The latest leak of information has added more intrigue to the already growing curiosity around the exact number of comic book characters the fans might get to see in the movie. With new and old X-Men, Fantastic 4, the new and old Avengers (or what is left of them), and many more coming together for Avengers: Doomsday, the plate already looks full.

Yet the list keeps getting longer (thanks to the Merc with a Mouth spoiling it at the San Diego Comic Con), with the new additions being the X-Force, a mysterious group that very few MCU fans know about.

X-Force is a familiar name to those who follow the comics. Even for movie-only fans, the name must have rung a bell. We have already been introduced to the group in Deadpool 2, which was actually a very different version of the X-Force from the comics. However, since the members Wade Wilson recruited in his X-Force all die gruesomely just hours after the formation of the team, there is room for new ones to join.

X-Force is a fictional team of superheroes appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics, most commonly in association with the X-Men. Conceived by writer Rob Liefeld. Issue published in September 1996.

Actually, the origin story of the X-Force in the comics is quite different. In the comics, the time-traveling agent Cable created the first X-Force by turning the New Mutants pupils at Xavier's School into paramilitary enforcers. Cable has used X-Force to further his objectives for years. The mutant group X-Force uses violence to carry out its criminal activities. It typically stands in opposition to the X-Men's idealistic approaches, offering a different perspective on problems pertaining to mutantkind.

The team initially comprised characters like Archangel, Boom-Boom, Hellverine, and even Ms. Marvel when it was first founded by Cable in the first comic book version. Over the years, the members and even the leader, leading them into missions, have changed quite a lot, starting with Cable and going to characters like Cyclops and Wolverine.

However, none of the above characters were present in Deadpool 2 when the X-Force was introduced for the first time, so what was the point?

Why was X-Force introduced in Deadpool 2?

The original plan for X-Force's appearance in Deadpool 2 was to build up a spinoff movie that would follow the team as the next development in Fox's X-Men universe. However, when Disney purchased 20th Century Fox in 2019, X-Force was postponed and ultimately scrapped. However, it might be time for X-Force to debut in the much wider cinematic universe now that Deadpool and his supporting cast are formally a member of the MCU.

That opportunity might be presented by Avengers: Doomsday, as we know so far that the plot has ample room for mutants both from the X-Men universe and in the wider MCU. Therefore, the probability of the X-Force making a proper debut, alongside Ryan Reynolds ’ Deadpool in the MCU, is quite high. Furthermore, it will be interesting to see more mutants join hands with the superheroes against Doctor Doom.
