The terrifying clown Pennywise is set to return with its sinister grin and haunt people again. The success of the It franchise spawned sequels and even a TV series, It: Welcome to Derry, showing new horrors of the clown. One of the next projects after the series could see the franchise revisiting the same horrors once again, this time through an expanded and reimagined lens.

Amid ongoing work on the show, Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti could be returning to the old movies for their latest project, the It Supercut.

Pennywise successfully managed to terrify an entire generation when It arrived in 2017, followed by It Chapter Two. Now, as the Muschiettis have explained, the Supercut will merge the two films into a single version. As Andy Muschietti said in a 2019 interview, the Supercut will include deleted scenes that were removed due to time constraints, along with newly filmed scenes."

“They can say, ‘Yeah, go for it,’ but now we are sort of committed, like happily committed, to season 2 of Welcome to Derry. And there’s other movie projects going around. But we’re going to do it,” he said, in a conversation with SlashFilm.

Barbara Muschietti explained that their work schedule, which includes TV series It: Welcome to Derry and even certain DC projects, has made it difficult to focus on the Supercut, which could run as long as six hours. They will also need to film new scenes and restructure the narrative. While challenging, they are clearly not giving up on the project.

Apart from Supercut, the Muschiettis also have their eyes on a series that is planned for 3 seasons.

Andy and Barbara Muschietti’s plans for It: Welcome to Derry

The world of It: Welcome to Derry is already bigger than expected. And Andy Muschietti has a clear plan for the series and the story, which will span at least three seasons. Now, the first season was a prequel to the IT movies. The next seasons will also be quite interesting as they will move backward in time, which is a clever way to explore the horror.

Season one begins in 1962, then jumps to 1935, and finally lands in 1908, digging deeper into Pennywise’s origins as Andy Muschietti explained. Pennywise has haunted the town for years, and this approach might be the right way to explore the horrors.
