An Italian Mafia boss, Dwight 'The General' Manfredi, trying to rebuild his criminal empire in Tulsa, Oklahoma, surrounded by strangers, turned out to be a gripping premise that kept people hooked for three seasons. While the show is set to return for season 4, the story is no longer confined to just one man. Its crime world seems to be expanding, as a spinoff is expected to follow Dwight’s trusted ally, Russell Lee Washington Jr., played by Samuel L. Jackson.

However, that spinoff, initially titled Nola King, has taken a new turn, with a new title, Frisco King, and an entirely different setting. So does the new title also change the protagonist and his story? Here is a closer look at what these changes mean for Jackson and the next chapter in the Tulsa King universe.

The Tulsa King’s spin-off is now officially renamed as Frisco King, as per Paramount+. It is also announced that the first season, which consists of 8 episodes, will be written by Tulsa King creator Taylor Sheridan. While the protagonist of the show is still Russell Lee Washington Jr., played by Samuel L. Jackson, there are quite a few other changes.

Initially, the show and production were set to be in New Orleans, which is the hometown of Jackson’s character, who appeared in season 3 of Tulsa King. However, now, the show is set to be in Frisco, Texas. After being ordered to finish off Dwight, Jackson’s character arrives in Tulsa, but inspired by his ally’s empire, sets out to build one of his own.

While a few scenes might be shot in New Orleans, much of the filming will take place in Frisco. So, the upcoming series will follow Jackson’s character Russell Lee Washington Jr., as he tries to find his footing in a new city while he faces off new and old enemies.
