Friday the 13th is the gospel of slasher-horror movies, which has given lifelong nightmares to many. A total of 12 movies under its hood, and still, fans crave more from the franchise. They now want to know more about the origin story of Jason Voorhees and his mother Pamela Voorhees, the killer in the iconic 1980 edition, which was where everything started.

Way back in 2022, it was announced that a series from the Friday the 13th franchise called Crystal Lake is in the making and will explore the story of Pamela Voorhees and a young Jason Voorhees. It has been four years since the announcement, satiating the enthusiasts into patiently waiting for the arrival of the show.

However, the first looks of the anticipated slasher series just dropped, and with that, interest in the show has only risen.

When does Crystal Lake drop?

The show is set to release sometime in 2026, but the exact date has not yet been announced. The filming of the show, which started somewhere around June 2025, has already wrapped up filming in late October 2025. The series is supposed to be eight episodes long and will stream on Peacock.

With only the first look dropped of the show, the makers will probably announce the release date either with the teaser or the trailer.

The first looks, however, have ignited even more intrigue around the story of the show and what it might entail.

What will be the plot of Crystal Lake?

The exact plot points of the show are not disclosed as of now, but it will definitely follow Jason Voorhees' murderous mother, Pamela Voorhees. According to what the showrunner Brad Caleb Kane told Entertainment Weekly in a December 2025 interview, the show is going to be a paranoid thriller set in the 70s. He further claimed that although Crystal Lake is not exactly a slasher, it possesses all the traits of one.

The details of the story are still unclear, but we do know that it will follow Pamela as a mother who had to give up her singing career to take care of her special needs son. The series might focus on the mother-son dynamic and how it had an impact on a young Jason, which made him a killer.
