“As my mother was passing, she was lonely, and there was only so much the family could provide,” she said during a talk at the University of San Francisco.

She then added, “I wish there was these people in the world that were there to sit impartially and just provide solace and care,” emphasizing the need for compassionate, unbiased presence during final moments.

Balancing demanding careers and raising children alongside her sister, Kidman acknowledged how difficult it became to fully care for her mother after her father’s passing. She is not alone in this perspective, as Chloé Zhao, best known for Nomadland and Eternals, has also trained as a death doula. This growing interest signals a shift toward more compassionate end-of-life care, where emotional presence and dignity hold equal importance alongside medical treatment.
