Daeron Targaryen, the fourth and youngest child of Alicent and Viserys, has been a wild-card entry in this Targaryen civil war. The character was never seen or mentioned in House of the Dragon season 1, despite existing in George R.R. Martin’s Fire & Blood, the source of the show. He was only mentioned once in season 2, episode 6, and then he directly appeared in season 3 with a key role to play in the Targaryen internal conflict.

But viewers who are just introduced to the young Targaryen are now curious about his fate in the story.

What the future holds for Daeron in House of the Dragon season 3?

Although things might turn out differently in House of the Dragon, Daeron plays a significant role in Team Green's military strategy throughout the Dance of the Dragons. Before Rhaenyra captures King's Landing, Daeron and Tessarion (his dragon) take part in the Battle of the Honeywine in canon, although that obviously is yet to happen in season 3 (if the makers are planning to stay true to the book).

Ormund Hightower, on the other hand, seems destined for the First Battle of Tumbleton. After Ulf White and Hugh Hammer shockingly betray Queen Rhaenyra, they join Daeron along with their dragons, turning the small hamlet of Tumbleton into a terrible war zone. Daeron becomes King Aegon's legitimate successor after Aemond Targaryen is officially killed in combat with Daemon.

Unfortunately, Daeron is killed during the Second Battle of Tumbleton, so he does not really realize his short-lived status as the rightful successor of Aegon. But it is what happens in the canon, and it is not yet confirmed what route the showrunner and co-creator Ryan Condal might take, as he is known to make narrative-altering changes throughout the show.

It will surely come to the minds of many as to what changes the show has already introduced in Daeron’s character in the television adaptation.

Is Daeron the same or changed in the TV adaptation?

As House of the Dragon season 3 progresses, the audience can anticipate a lot of what has already been written in the book by George R.R. Martin, although the HBO series will undoubtedly tweak the specifics. In Fire & Blood, Daeron is an older, more vindictive figure, whose vanity and disregard for those lesser than him lead to his doom.

Nevertheless, the TV version has given him a somewhat different description. He is more docile, in fact, a lot more docile and sensitive, as seen in season 3, episode 4. This small change in character might lead to a ripple effect and change a whole lot from what was originally meant for the character. Still, it entirely depends on the makers on how they want to end things for the young Targaryen prince.
