Tom Holland is already looking toward the future of the Marvel franchise. The actor hopes to take on the same role that Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark once played for him. Tom Holland first appeared in the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War and later made his solo debut in Spider-Man: Homecoming. In his second movie, Robert Downey Jr. reprised his role as Iron Man, and his character was both a mentor and a father figure to Peter Parker. Now, The Odyssey actor hopes to take on a similar role for the next generation of lead characters in the Spider-Man universe.

“For whoever's next, whether that is a Miles Morales or a Spider-Gwen or a Spider-Woman or something like that, I would love to be a part of setting up the next chapter,” he told in his interview with Empire.

"But, if I could do what Downey did for me, then I would be so content swinging off into the sunset," Holland added.

And not just onscreen, Robert Downey Jr. was also reportedly supportive of Holland behind the scenes as well. During Holland’s appearance in Captain America: Civil War, Downey Jr. made sure the young actor got the chance to shine.

Holland is the third actor to play Peter Parker on the big screen after Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. While inevitable, Holland is not bidding goodbye to his Marvel superhero character just yet. Continuing in his run, he returned as Spider-Man in his fourth Spider-Man film, Spider-Man: Brand New Day.

“But they liked the kernel of the idea and it grew into what we have in the movie now,” he said.
