Prince Harry has managed the rare trick of turning a royal birthright into a résumé with rather more plot twists than a palace drama: Duke of Sussex, 10-year British Army veteran, and founder of the Invictus Games. As the younger son of King Charles III and Princess Diana, he grew up royal, became a soldier, and eventually stepped back from royal duties with Meghan Markle.

Royal wealth is one thing, but after stepping down as a senior working royal in 2020, how exactly does Prince Harry earn his living today?

Prince Harry makes his money through a decidedly modern royal résumé: media production, publishing, corporate work, public speaking, and private investments. After stepping back as a senior working royal in 2020, the Duke of Sussex stopped receiving taxpayer-funded support through the monarchy’s Sovereign Grant. His income now comes largely from ventures built outside traditional royal duties.

A major piece of that income comes from Archewell Productions, the entertainment company Prince Harry founded with Meghan Markle. Its multi-year Netflix partnership, initially reported at around $100 million, has turned the couple into Hollywood producers rather than simply royal celebrities. Their projects include Harry & Meghan, Heart of Invictus, Live to Lead, and Polo.

Prince Harry also earns through publishing and corporate work, with his memoir Spare reportedly securing a $20 million advance as part of a larger Penguin Random House deal. He serves as Chief Impact Officer at BetterUp, while public speaking adds another potentially substantial income stream. Earlier, his Spotify partnership also generated earnings before ending prematurely.

While Prince Harry no longer receives official royal funding or regular financial support from the British royal family, his remarkable inheritance is a different story.

Prince Harry's substantial inheritance

Prince Harry’s financial cushion did not begin with Netflix or Hollywood. A substantial portion of his generational wealth traces back to two private family inheritances: money left by Princess Diana, whom he recently paid a visit to with his family, and a separate trust established by Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. Because both were private family arrangements, they remained separate from the royal funding Prince Harry left behind.

Princess Diana’s estate ultimately provided Prince Harry with an inheritance estimated at around $20-30 million, placed into trust and invested until he gained access to the capital. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother also created a trust for her great-grandchildren, with Prince Harry receiving a final estimated $10.5 million tranche when he turned 40 in 2024. Together, those inheritances gave the Duke of Sussex a substantial financial foundation for life beyond royal duties.
