His course titled Script to Screen: Commercials takes students behind the scenes of commercial ad campaigns, from first scribbles to final cuts. Offering a masterclass in turning words into moving pictures, McConaughey has given communication majors a front-row seat to the nuts and bolts of filmmaking in action.

The teaching gig did not happen overnight. McConaughey began this path as a visiting professor in 2015, returning to his alma mater with a genuine desire to mentor. By 2019, he was officially a professor of practice in the Department of Radio-Television-Film, co-creating the curriculum with fellow film expert Scott Rice. He has even stated that class is the one he wishes he had back in film school, packed with lessons from real-world experience rather than textbook theory.
