In a recent round table conference with the media, Kevin Feige openly discussed Ryan Reynolds' future as Deadpool. When asked whether fans would get to see their favorite superheroes suit up again, he said he has had discussions with Reynolds regarding the same. According to ComicBook, Feige confirmed, "There have absolutely been discussions. We’re in touch with Ryan a lot. So the answer is yes." When grilled further about Hugh Jackman's return as Wolverine, he joked that Jackman would keep playing the mutant as long as fans want him to.
Feige's words resonate with the context of legal rights restored when Disney bought Fox, bringing back the X-Men mutants and Deadpool under the MCU's roof. Deadpool & Wolverine was not merely a crossover; it was Marvel's first entry into its mutant era, significantly paving the way for Phase 6. While Deadpool and Wolverine might not fit right in the upcoming announced projects, Reynolds had reportedly been engaging in the writing process of an X-Men-oriented film, as per The Hollywood Reporter. Fans can expect several exciting storylines to play out for the duo once the MCU's next phase finally takes off.
MCU Phase 6 is only getting started and there is already a plethora of exciting releases lined-up, while fans wait for Deadpool and Wolverine.
What to expect next from Marvel Cinematic Universe's Phase 6?
Marvel's Phase 5 has officially called the curtains with the release of Ironheart. Bringing the '60s aesthetic to life, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, is set to herald Phase 6, leading directly to Avengers: Doomsday (2026), followed by Avengers: Secret Wars (2027). In this new phase, while fans will meet the new Reed, Sue, Johnny, and Ben as the Fantastic Four, the man who started it all, Robert Downey Jr., will also reprise his MCU journey, but this time as the villain, Doctor Doom. Comic fans also have a lot more to look forward to in the near future, including a new Tom Holland movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, set to arrive in 2026. Disney+ specials such as Marvel Zombies and Wonder Man have also been confirmed to be part of the next MCU phase.

What Marvel can now aim at is for Deadpool and Wolverine's seamless inclusion in their future project galore, particularly if the tone or plot requirements necessitate. For a movie that smoothly expanded Marvel's narrative playground, abandoning the heroes is highly unlikely. With Kevin Feige already affirming ongoing negotiations, the duo could soon reappear, maybe in crossovers or a standalone tale again.
