“We’re Coming for You”: Robert Kirkman Won’t Stop Chasing Bryan Cranston for 'Invincible'

As brutally as animation continues to sharpen its edge across modern television, few blood-soaked forces have stormed the genre with the same thunder as Invincible. And while the American animated superhero saga created by Robert Kirkman has already shattered expectations with its savage twists, sky-high acclaim, and a 98% Tomatometer score in season 1, the chaos inside its universe seems far from finished. Now, with the series preparing fresh mayhem ahead and its creator still hunting one final prestige prize, it appears Bryan Cranston may be the next name being pulled toward the carnage.
And with Bryan Cranston firmly in Robert Kirkman’s sights, will the upcoming Invincible finally land the Emmy winner?

Following the final conclusion of Invincible season four, which arrived on April 22 after premiering on March 18, the hit animated saga closed an eight-episode run that adapted the high-stakes Viltrumite War arc, centring on the ultimate clash between the Coalition of Planets and the Viltrum Empire. And while fans now look toward season five, creator Robert Kirkman wasted little time stirring fresh chaos, joking to DiscussingFilm that they are not going to stop offering Bryan Cranston roles, that he is not going to beat them, and that they are coming for Cranston.
"We're not gonna stop offering him roles, he's not going to beat us … We're coming for you, Cranston!" Kirkman told DiscussingFilm.
Long before this latest playful chase, Cranston, widely celebrated as Walter White in Breaking Bad and Hal in Malcolm in the Middle, had already been approached during season four’s production. Earlier in 2025, Kirkman revealed that offering Cranston a role had become a yearly tradition, while the actor’s tradition was turning them down. Kirkman added that they would keep coming for him again, fingers crossed, even joking that Cranston was the only actor who had ever rejected them.
"As far as dream casting goes, I think we offer Bryan Cranston a role every season. That has become our tradition, and his tradition is that he turns us down (laughs). But we’re coming for you again, Bryan, and we’ll see what happens next time. Fingers crossed! Literally, Bryan Cranston is the only actor that has turned us down.” Kirkman told Collider back in 2025.
As Bryan Cranston’s response remains due, attention has already shifted to everything that Invincible season five is going to hold.
Everything we know about Invincible season 5
While Invincible has already grown into a juggernaut for Prime Video, repeatedly ranking as the platform’s No. 2 show worldwide, the blood-soaked saga gained a major head start when the streaming giant renewed season five back in July 2025. With momentum already surging, the next chapter is widely expected to arrive in early 2027, likely between February and April, as the story picks up from season four’s uneasy truce cliffhanger and dives into events beyond issue #79 of the comics.

The coming storm will also bring back key voices, with Steven Yeun, J.K. Simmons, and Sandra Oh all expected to return. Matthew Rhys is set for a vastly expanded role as Dinosaurus, while Lee Pace returns as Grand Regent Thragg, the looming threat still hiding his army on Earth. Meanwhile, speculation continues that Jason Mantzoukas could voice an older Rudy/Robot after the character’s time in the Flaxan dimension.
And while the casting doors remain wide open for Bryan Cranston to step into Invincible, the final verdict still rests with the Emmy winner himself. However, if Cranston finally joins the blood-soaked universe, the sky-high saga could soar to an even louder level of chaos and prestige.
