Ike Barinholtz has revealed that he and his Running Point collaborator Dave Stassen constantly do Kurt Russell impressions just to tease Kate Hudson, whether she asks for it or not. The comedian did not hold back while explaining how this playful ritual began, turning a simple work friendship into one of his funniest recurring bits. Before getting into the specifics of the impression itself, here is a look at how the joke first came together.
While the impression itself sounds harmless enough, the way Hudson reacts each time reveals exactly why Barinholtz refuses to retire the bit.
Ike Barinholtz breaks down his Kurt Russell bit on Funny You Ask
Ike Barinholtz confirmed that he and Dave Stassen turn into amateur Kurt Russell impersonators every time Kate Hudson mentions spending an evening with him, and neither of them shows any sign of stopping. He explained the ritual in detail while speaking on his podcast, Funny You Ask.
"Dave Sass and I , we will constantly do impressions of him to her and she doesn't ask for it," Barinholtz said, before walking through exactly how the bit unfolds.
He then added, "anytime she mentions him, I will be like, 'What did you do this weekend?' She is like, 'Oh, I had dinner with Goldie and Kurt last night. He brought over a really nice bottle of wine.'"
Barinholtz then revealed his go-to response, adding, "I will be like, 'It is a f****** Bordeaux, man. You do not even know your f******* wine.'"

Barinholtz and Hudson share a working relationship that extends well beyond casual banter, built through their time together on the Netflix series Running Point. He co-created the show and continues to write and produce it, while Hudson leads the cast as Isla Gordon, a role that keeps the two in frequent contact on set. Their rapport has spilled into public appearances as well, including moments where Barinholtz has jokingly angled for a bigger onscreen connection with her character. The impressions bit shared on the podcast, it turns out, is simply the latest chapter in a friendship that already thrives on playful exaggeration.
As Hudson continues trading laughs with Barinholtz off camera, another major reunion from her past is quietly taking shape.
Kate Hudson eyes a reunion with Matthew McConaughey for How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days
Kate Hudson is reportedly attached to produce a sequel to her 2003 rom-com hit, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, through her banner Shiny Penny alongside producer Stacey Sher. Both Hudson and Matthew McConaughey are expected to reprise their roles, though the project remains in early development. The film followed columnist Andie Anderson and executive Benjamin Barry, whose competing schemes turned into romance.

The original film earned close to $180 million worldwide and has remained a beloved rom-com for two decades, fueling excitement around a follow-up. Whether the sequel materializes or not, Hudson stays busy across multiple projects. Kurt Russell impressions, though, still remain reliably entertaining for Ike Barinholtz.
